Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My career began in the esthetics industry with a simple passion for helping people feel confident in their own skin. As an esthetician, I quickly realized that I didn’t just enjoy performing treatments—I loved understanding the science behind them and, even more importantly, teaching others. That passion led me into education, where I had the privilege of training future estheticians and eventually speaking at conferences, writing educational content, and developing advanced curricula for professionals across the country.
As my career evolved, I recognized an opportunity to build something different. I wanted to create an institution that combined exceptional technical education with professionalism, integrity, and a genuine culture of caring. That vision became Southeastern Health and Wellness Institute. What started as a single idea has grown into an institution offering multiple allied health and wellness programs, serving hundreds of students while preparing graduates for meaningful careers that truly impact their communities.
Today, I serve as the Chief Administrative Officer of Southeastern Health and Wellness Institute, where my focus extends far beyond the classroom. My work centers on institutional leadership, accreditation, compliance, program development, faculty mentorship, and ensuring that every decision we make keeps student success at the forefront. We are incredibly excited to be expanding into degree-granting education with our Associate of Applied Science in Diagnostic Medical Sonography program, which represents another important milestone in our institution’s growth.
Throughout this journey, one thing has remained constant: I believe education changes lives. Whether I’m teaching a science lecture, mentoring an instructor, developing a new academic program, or leading our institution through accreditation, my goal is always the same—to create opportunities that empower people to build rewarding careers while elevating the standards of healthcare education.
Looking back, every challenge has reinforced one lesson: success isn’t built overnight. It’s built through consistency, resilience, surrounding yourself with an incredible team, and staying committed to a vision that’s bigger than yourself. I feel incredibly grateful for the students, faculty, staff, and community who have been part of this journey, and I truly believe the most exciting chapters for Southeastern Health and Wellness Institute are still ahead.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
While I’m incredibly grateful for where we are today, the journey has been filled with challenges that have required resilience, adaptability, and a long-term commitment to our mission.
One of the biggest realities people don’t always see is the financial investment required to build and sustain a quality educational institution. Education is a highly regulated industry, and before a single student ever walks through the door, there are significant investments in facilities, classrooms, laboratories, technology, equipment, faculty, curriculum development, and student support services. Every new program requires months—often years—of planning, funding, and preparation before it can even begin serving students.
Another major challenge has been navigating the extensive compliance and accreditation requirements. Every day, we work with multiple regulatory agencies, including state licensing boards, accrediting organizations, the U.S. Department of Education, and state higher education authorities. Each agency has its own standards, reporting requirements, policies, audits, and expectations. Maintaining compliance isn’t something you do once—it’s an ongoing responsibility that requires constant attention to detail and a commitment to continuous improvement.
What surprises many people is that while balancing all of those administrative responsibilities, I still genuinely love being in the classroom. Even as Chief Administrative Officer, I continue teaching because that’s where my passion began. It’s not uncommon for me to spend my morning working on accreditation reports, strategic planning, financial projections, regulatory documentation, or program development, and then walk directly into a classroom to teach esthetics science or mentor students. Those are two very different roles, but both are equally important to me.
Leading an institution also means making difficult decisions, solving unexpected problems, and carrying responsibility not only for our students but also for our faculty, staff, graduates, and the future of the organization. There are certainly long days, but they’re balanced by moments that make every challenge worthwhile—watching a student earn their professional license, seeing graduates begin careers in healthcare, or celebrating milestones like launching new academic programs.
Every obstacle has reinforced one lesson: meaningful growth rarely happens without challenge. The setbacks have made us stronger, our systems more effective, and our institution better equipped to serve students. Looking back, I wouldn’t describe the journey as smooth, but I would absolutely describe it as purposeful. Every challenge has helped shape Southeastern Health and Wellness Institute into the institution it is today, and it continues to motivate me as we look toward the future.
