Inspiring Conversations with Catherine Loflin of Carolina Cosmetic Surgery

Today we’d like to introduce you to Catherine Loflin.

Hi Catherine, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My parents say I told them I wanted to be a doctor at the age of 4, and I remember it always being something I knew I would do. I grew up with a great family on a beef cattle farm in the middle of North Carolina. I was able to get into East Carolina University and was in the inaugural class to complete their degrees in 3 years. I went straight into medical school at Brody School of Medicine at ECU and fell in love with surgery. I then moved to SC for residency in Columbia, SC at Palmetto Health Richland/USC at the time (now Prisma). I have worked as a general surgeon in North and South Carolina until 2021. Being a general surgeon on call is a stressful life where you are often meeting people on the worst day of their life; which takes its toll. I decided to switch careers to Cosmetic Surgery (although I still love general surgery and help take call in the community). I worked for Sonobello for almost 3 years and then was accepted into the American Board of Cosmetic Surgery fellowship in Chicago, IL. I uprooted some of my life but kept my residence in Indian Land, SC, because I knew I wanted to come back. I completed my fellowship and gained a wealth of knowledge to help my patients feel more confident in their bodies and help them be happier and healthier. I call it “Happy Medicine,” and it is so rewarding!! I have started my own cosmetic surgery practice in Indian Land, SC called Carolina Cosmetic Surgery where I offer a variety of services including non-surgical weight loss, hair restoration, skin care and surgical treatments head-to-toe.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Of course there were struggles! It required so many dedicated hours of learning, teaching, treating patients, counseling families; years of sleepless nights, wondering if you have what it takes, missing your own families birthdays, anniversaries, and holidays—But all for the privilege and trust of treating and operating on patients; so it was 1000% worth it!

As you know, we’re big fans of Carolina Cosmetic Surgery. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
I’m pretty much an open book; so if you’ve met me, you probably know me! I do have a rare outlook from a lot of physicians that I believe the more natural the better. I try to take patient’s off of medicines that can be interacting especially with hormones. I have natural weight loss options, and skin care lines that don’t have chemicals but rely more on botanical treatments as well as using the the bodies own stem cells to treat patients or plant based stem cells to enhance hair growth, skin quality and heal scars. I also very rarely wear makeup–I just truly feel natural is the best way!
