Inspiring Conversations with Brooke Humphrey of Repose Counseling & Wellness, LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brooke Humphrey.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I am a Doctor of Social Work and a Licensed Independent Social Worker (LISW) with over 15 years of experience in the mental health and end-of-life fields. I am passionate about guiding adults and seniors through the unique challenges of life and helping them live their own special stories. I specialize in anxiety, grief and loss, end-of-life issues, and other life transitions. I completed my Doctor of Social Work degree at Walden University and my Master’s degree in Social Work at the University of South Carolina. I am a native of South Carolina and have resided in Greenville since early childhood.

My first career was in the concert and theatre industry, working as an audio engineer and stagehand, before taking a job at Thornwell Home for Children, which led me to graduate school. My mom and her siblings lived at Thornwell after their father passed, so I am considered a grandchild of Thornwell. Growing up and absorbing my mom’s experience as a child and then her losses as an adult taught me lessons at the time I may not have understood. These events and others led me to specialize in loss and life transitions, initially with older adults but now with all individuals.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road to owning my own practice was challenging. I was lucky to have mentors who answered questions when I had them and guided me when necessary. Transitioning from a salaried employee to self-employed was tough. Building a practice and a client load while staying true to my values meant, at times, not having much work in the beginning.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Repose Counseling & Wellness, LLC was formed in September 2023. Currently, I am the only provider, but the goal is to grow into a multi-practitioner practice. I specialize in anxiety, grief and loss, end-of-life issues, and other life transitions, utilizing multiple treatment approaches, including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), mindfulness, motivational interviewing (MI), person-centered therapy (PCT), and solutions-focused therapy (SFT).

What sets my practice apart from others is the ability to work with seniors on Medicare and address the vast needs of the aging population.

So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
My practice has thrived on word of mouth and other advertising to attain clients. Sharing the website, Facebook page, or Psychology Today profile would be a great way to support the growth of Repose Counseling & Wellness, LLC. At this time, I am looking to expand to accepting other fully licensed practitioners with a similar vision, but also who would bring new ideas for service to our community.
