Today we’d like to introduce you to Brenda Williams.
Hi Brenda, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
First, I am a mother of 3 boys 22, 12 and 3. I am an Army veteran. I have my bachelor’s in psychology with a minor in sociology. I received my master’s in social workers. I began my business because of the situation I found myself in at the time. I was going through a divorce and at a job that barely paid the bills. Like most graduates you do not land in the job you went to school for immediately. Everything I was going through I found myself talking to a therapist. Only problem was I could not talk to her when I needed to. I had to wait until my next appointment. This is what led me to start my on business. I wanted to tap into a market where individuals had access to a therapist at anytime and day. I also provide discrete services, having available times on nights and weekends. This is what my clients love and needed. I pride myself on being there for my clients.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The most of the struggling is marketing.
As you know, we’re big fans of Legacy Counseling LLC. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Legacy Counseling provides excellent services for all needs. We work with kids to senior citizens. I have a lot of experiences in many modalities (i.e CBT, PTSD, trauma informed care and etc.) I am known for meeting my clients where they are. I talk to them on their level and keep it honest. Many say I am very relatable. I am different because I think outside of the box and very creative in my approach. Branding wise I geared it towards black people. My community do not talk to anyone about our problems. There is a stigma of going to a therapist. This is why I do telehealth as well. I would like for people to know that my prices are reasonable and I do have a sliding scale. I love what I do. Also, I still see my therapist after 10 years.

Know why you started your business, who your audience is and make sure it is your passion.
