Inspiring Conversations with Braxton Wallace of The Cornbread Cafe

Today we’d like to introduce you to Braxton Wallace.

Braxton, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I have always had a passion for food growing up, Cooking with my grandmothers and of course my grandfather. From jams to cakes or just southern fried chicken Sunday dinners, being around food and family was just my little slice of heaven. Once I graduated from high school, I took my route into the culinary field. This took me all the way to Charleston, SC where I went to school at the Art Institute of Charleston and loved every minute of being around Chefs and doing what I enjoyed the most. I moved back to my hometown once out of school and started working in kitchens around Columbia, South Carolina. Which is where my Husband and I ended up meeting. We both had such a passion for healthy eating and southern cuisine. We wanted to offer a unique experience to our community, keeping things fresh and not overly processed. We spent about 2 years going back and forth on where we would like to start our Restaurant journey. In August 2024, We were blessed with 1101 Church Street in Elgin, South Carolina and “The Cornbread Cafe”. We opened our doors October 18th, 2024 and just celebrated our First Anniversary!

We have been thankful to have such amazing Guest, Family, Neighbors and Friends supporting us through this journey.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
There are always up’s and down’s of owning your own business. Staying prepared for the “down’s” and being Thankful for the “up’s” are always placed in our hearts. We have shed sweat and tears into our Restaurant to ensure everyone has a wonderful experience from start to finish.
