Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashton Tisdale.
Hi Ashton, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am a Licensed Independent Social Worker (LISW-CP), Licensed Addiction Counselor (LAC), and Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor (AADC). I received a Bachelor of Sciences in Psychology degree at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2012, and also received a Masters in Social Work at the University of South Carolina in 2014. My first job after graduate school was with the Prisma Health Adolescent Recovery Center, where I was a therapist for teens with substance use disorders in an intensive outpatient treatment setting. I worked with Prisma for over 3 years, then in 2017 I started to work for the South Carolina Recovering Professional Program as a case manager for healthcare professionals with substance use disorders. In 2019, I started working with the University of South Carolina Counseling Center as a Triage Counselor, and in 2021 I took my business full time as an outpatient private practice therapist.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It’s a lot better now, but it has been a tough road! Starting as a social worker, I am grateful I was exposed to some tough treatment settings, however at times that was hard to deal with. I also think initially becoming a business owner was hard, I didn’t start making gross surplus money until about a year into the business, and I had to do almost all of the work myself upfront. Luckily, over time things have gotten easier, definitely because I put in the hard work early!
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Ashton Doby Counseling, LLC?
I am an outpatient private practice therapist and I provide individual and family therapy to people with mental health and substance use disorders. I treat people struggling with anxiety, depression, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), complex trauma, alcohol and substance use, Bipolar Disorder, and Personality Disorders. I provide sessions in-person and online.
I am a Certified Trauma Resolution Energy Therapy (TRET) Practitioner, a therapy that focuses on healing energy related to past and current traumas in the realms of mind, body, and spirit. TRET initially focuses on reducing the emotional charge, or energy, associated with the root causes of current problems. Over time, TRET fosters holistic healing through the mind-body connection by replacing emotionally charged energy with new positive core beliefs.
I am also extensively trained in Schema Therapy, which has been shown to be effective with personality disorders and chronic emotional disorders. Schema Therapy involves looking at unmet needs in early childhood that led to maladaptive core beliefs, and how those core beliefs are negatively impacting the present. Schema Therapy aims to change core beliefs into more effective ones to accomplish current goals and enjoy life in general.
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
I would love to be able to possibly own my own office building one day, and I would like to stop taking insurance and be a full self-pay business. I think with the trends in therapy right now these are realistic possibilities.
Pricing:
- 140- Intake session (self pay)
- 125- Individual/Family Session (self pay)
- Prices with insurance varies depending on plan
