Inspiring Conversations with Amanda Bunting Comen of Social ABCs

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amanda Bunting Comen.

Hi Amanda Bunting, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Straight out of the College of Charleston, I began my journey as an intern at the Center for Women, immersing myself in the nonprofit sector. This experience ignited my passion for community engagement and laid the foundation for my career. Over the years, I dedicated myself to various nonprofit roles, focusing heavily on social media and website development. I even got to shake Oprah Winfrey’s hand! In 2006, I graduated from the Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce’s Leadership Charleston program, and in 2008, I was honored with the Charleston Regional Business Journal’s Forty Under 40 Award.

In 2019, after years of honing my skills and understanding the intricacies of marketing and public relations, I founded Social ABCs. My vision was clear: to assist businesses and nonprofits with their social media management, public relations, and other marketing needs, allowing them to focus more on their core operations. Social ABCs has been recognized as one of the Top 3 Public Relations Firms and Ad and Marketing Firms in the Charleston Regional Business Journal Reader Rankings 2023 and 2024 Official Business Choice Awards and a Shining Social Media Professional Finalist by Charleston Women Magazine.

Reflecting on these past six years, I’m filled with gratitude for the journey and the incredible clients and partners who’ve been part of this adventure. As Social ABCs continues to grow, I’m excited about the future and the opportunity to keep making a positive impact in the marketing realm.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Not at all—it’s been a journey filled with challenges, growth, and a lot of lessons learned. As a solopreneur I’m handling everything on my own—from client work to business development, accounting, and everything in between. Wearing all the hats can be both exciting and exhausting, but I’m determined to build something meaningful.

One of the biggest hurdles came just a year into business when COVID hit. Marketing is often the first thing to get cut from budgets during uncertain times, and I was worried about how that would impact my business. There were definitely moments of doubt, but I leaned into creativity, adapted services to meet shifting needs, and focused on helping clients navigate the new digital landscape. That flexibility and commitment to client success ultimately helped Social ABCs not just survive but grow.

Looking back, the challenges have been some of my greatest teachers. They pushed me to be resilient, think outside the box, and truly understand the value of strategic, adaptable marketing. Now, six years in, I’m grateful for every lesson and excited for what’s ahead!

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
At Social ABCs, I cover a broad spectrum, from meticulous social media management and impactful public and media relations to email marketing. Essentially, I help businesses build and maintain a strong, consistent online presence that resonates with their audience.

What I believe I’m known for, and what I consistently emphasize, is our unwavering attention to detail. In the digital space, every pixel, every word, every interaction matters. I understand that a brand’s reputation is built on the cumulative effect of these small, yet significant, elements. My clients trust us to ensure that every aspect of their online communication is polished and professional.

I’m incredibly proud of the consistency brought to clients’ campaigns. I don’t believe in fleeting trends or sporadic bursts of activity. I build sustainable strategies that deliver results over time. Whether it’s daily social media engagement, ongoing media outreach, or regular email newsletters, I ensure that our clients’ messages are consistently delivered with clarity and purpose.

What sets me apart, I think, is I pride myself on being responsive and proactive, always staying ahead of the curve in the ever-evolving digital world. I don’t just manage accounts; I build lasting partnerships.
