Today we’d like to introduce you to Valentina Mitchell.
Hi Valentina, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Dogs have always been more than animals to me—they’ve been teachers, partners, and lifelong companions.
My journey didn’t begin with certifications or business plans. It started at a young age spending my days working with neighborhood dogs simply because I felt drawn to them. Even then, I understood something powerful: when a dog is truly understood, everything changes. Confidence grows, trust forms, and an unbreakable bond begins.
That passion followed me into adulthood, where I started my first venture as a dog groomer at a young age. Every dog that came through my doors taught me something new, and my curiosity quickly turned into dedication. I attended seminars, studied endlessly, and absorbed every piece of knowledge I could find about behavior, communication, and training.
Over the years, I’ve been fortunate to work with an incredible range of dogs—police detection dogs, protection dogs, service dogs, search and rescue teams, and beloved family pets. Despite their different roles, they all shared the same need: understanding, patience, and leadership rooted in compassion.
My path eventually led me into a franchise training environment, where I witnessed something that changed me. Too often, profits were valued over people and dogs. Training became a transaction instead of a relationship. I knew then that dogs—and their families—deserved better.
That realization became the heart behind Guiding Canines.
I created Guiding Canines to be more than a training service. It’s a place where owners feel supported, dogs are treated as individuals, and real transformation happens through trust, communication, and empathy. My mission is to help people truly understand their dogs, strengthening the bond that brought them together in the first place.
Because success isn’t measured in dollars earned—it’s found in the wag of a relaxed tail, the confidence of a once-uncertain dog, and the joy of a family finally living in harmony with their companion.
This isn’t just my profession.
It’s my purpose.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Entering an already crowded dog training market came with its challenges. Rather than investing in advertisements or chasing visibility online, I focused on what mattered most—training dogs. Each success story became my reputation. Every calm walk, confident dog, and relieved owner became proof of what dedicated, thoughtful training could achieve. My business didn’t grow through ads; it grew through trust, results, and the dogs themselves.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
We are a veteran-owned business specializing in fear-reactive and aggressive dogs. We also work with dogs of all breeds, sizes, and ages. Our services include board and train, private sessions, and boarding.
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
I always tell future dog trainers to find a local trainer to them that will allow them to shadow.
