My journey into entrepreneurship began with a life-changing moment: the birth of my daughter in 2003. At the time, I was deeply immersed in corporate America, working in Operations and Human Resources. Remote work was far from commonplace back then, but when my employer offered me the opportunity to work remotely as an independent contractor, I eagerly accepted. For 18 months, I experienced the freedom and work-life balance that remote work provided, something I quickly came to value deeply. When the company asked me to return to the office, I faced a pivotal decision. Ultimately, it was both the hardest and easiest choice I’ve ever made—putting my family first, I chose to step away from my corporate role.
Over the next 18 years, I took on new roles that shaped my journey: homeschooling my daughter, supporting my husband’s ministry as a pastor’s wife, and pursuing various entrepreneurial ventures. Along the way, I discovered a passion for creating systems and solving problems. When it was time to re-enter the workforce, I was committed to maintaining the flexibility and freedom I had worked so hard to build.
In 2021, I launched Wrennovate Business Solutions to provide virtual assistant services to entrepreneurs, solo professionals, and small businesses. My work allows me to support clients in publishing newsletters, updating websites, managing social media, and handling countless other administrative tasks.
Today, I proudly serve clients across the U.S., Canada, and the U.K., helping them run their businesses smoothly while creating a thriving business of my own.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The path to entrepreneurship rarely is smooth, and mine was no exception. Transitioning from a stay-at-home lifestyle to running a business was a challenge, especially after nearly two decades outside the traditional workforce. I had to rebuild my confidence, learn new technologies, and keep up with constantly evolving industry trends.
One of the biggest challenges was overcoming imposter syndrome as an introvert re-entering the professional world. I wondered if I had what it took to succeed in a fast-paced virtual assistant industry. However, I leaned into my strengths—organization, problem-solving, and determination—and allowed my work to speak for itself. Client referrals became my biggest asset, and with every success, my confidence grew.

I’ve also learned that relationships are everything. My business thrives because I prioritize clear communication, trust, and integrity in all my client interactions. Clients trust me with their businesses, and I don’t take that responsibility lightly.
Lastly, I’ve discovered that building a successful business requires equal parts grit and grace. Success isn’t a straight line; it’s a journey of learning and staying committed to your purpose.
