Hidden Gems: Meet Temekia Leggett of Basket Boss Studio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Temekia Leggett.

Hi Temekia, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I went to Army 3 week after my high-school graduation. I had plan to 4years and get out but God had other plans. I like what I was doing so I re enlisted again and again and again until my health said otherwise. I began to have serious health challenges that disqualified me from continuing military service. I was close to retirement when the began the Medical Board process. I was devastated but my Husband, high-school sweetheartand traveling Chef Ron Leggett was very supportive. The hospital stays, frequent ER visits, more doctors appointments and test than ever. This was alot and our youngest was barely 2years old. Once the dust settled I was out of military the only job I had ever had and I was lost. I did not know what the next steps would be or what I would do next. For months or honestly years I was unhappy, lost , depressed and searching for my new purpose other than just being mom and wife. I went to college completed 2 more degrees but still was not happy or fulfilled . The one thing I was good at and that was showing up for my family and friendsim their special moments. The giving and see them smile made my day. I would find all the thing they like and put them together to beautifully. I was told for years why do you sell you baskets they do beautiful. I would hide away and say I just do this for fun. I continue making them and teaching myself new ideas like how to customize shirts, tumblers and other thing to make the baskets stand out even more. The people who knew would ask me to make things for them and make baskets for them . I would and them more and more people knew about what I was doing. I became more confident and less depressed it was like I found my new purpose. I attended a business conference with Shelia Fluker Minding my own D Business and from there Basket Boss Studio was created. Basket Boss Studio was created so that I could continue to create beautiful customize gifts that bring lasting smiles and memorable moments. It gave Temekia a new purpose. Now I created for any occasion, conference, retreats and just because .

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road. Starting and operating a business will challenge you. For me it was learning to balance the two businesses. Meaning my husband is the owner and Chef for Lil Ron’s Kitchen and Catering . He was there and always had been supporting me during my time in the military so I want to make sure I did everything possible to support him. I struggled with balance between the two businesses and showing up for my family and friends.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Basket Boss Studio specializes in creating custom, personalized gifts and gift baskets. That are create with love and specific consideration for the receiver to bring out the biggest smile and create a lasting memory. We also do party favors, and create meaningful and memorable gifts and favors for business, schools, churches, conference and retreats.

What are your plans for the future?
Future plans are to one day have an all in one event space with my husband Chef Ron. The space will allow clients to book their event from start to finish in one location. The will have the event spaces , decorator, caterer and a gift shop onsite.

I started doing a little decorating as well.
