Hidden Gems: Meet Stacey Lyon of Beach Nest Interiors

Today we’d like to introduce you to Stacey Lyon. She and her team shared their story with us below:

Stacey Lyon

When you meet Stacey, you may not think of her as a 4th generation award-winning sales and marketing professional in the plumbing industry, but that is where she spent most of her career. As you can imagine, more often than not, Stacey was the only woman in the room most places she went. Learning to succeed in a male-dominated industry made her tough and taught her a resiliency and perseverance she never knew she had, something she likes to call grit and grace.

These experiences helped shape the person Stacey is today and became more useful to her than she could have ever imagined in two significant ways – 1. Stacey is the parent of a child with intellectual disabilities, and 2. It helped inspire Stacey to curate women’s leadership and empowerment events, ultimately creating her second business, HypeGirl Co. (hypegirl.us)

When she is not encouraging women to believe in themselves and cheering them on, Stacey is the Owner and CEO of Beach Nest Interiors. Beach Nest is a boutique firm that decorates and remodels short-term rental and investment properties along the Grand Strand. She and her team help AirBnB and vrbo owners exceed their customer’s expectations resulting in 5 star reviews, increased number of weeks rented and higher profit margins. Thinking of investing in property at the beach? Give her a call and let her do the same for you!

Stacey grew up in the Annapolis, Maryland area and moved to Myrtle Beach in 2017 with her husband and two incredible kids, a therapy dog named Lucky and a salty one-eyed cat named Mo. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from Radford University and her MBA in Marketing from Notre Dame of Maryland University.

Stacey has a servant’s heart and loves volunteering with the nonprofits in our community. Here are a few of her favorite ways to serve: Leadership Grand Strand Board of Regents, Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce Ambassador, Multiplying Good Changemaker, Junior League of the Grand Strand Bylaw Committee, United Way of Horry County Vision Council and Grand Strand Miracle Leagues Board Member.

Let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what challenges have you had to overcome?

The road to success has been challenging and my career has had some setbacks. As a child, I dreamed of growing up and having a big career. I played boardroom and CEO and never thought I would be a wife or a mother, so imagine my surprise when both happened to me in my mid-30s. I had a rough pregnancy with my first child and was on bed rest for almost 4 months. When he was born, I thought he was perfect and to me, he still is. Slowly, he began to miss developmental milestones and exhibited some unusual behaviors as an infant, like staring at lightbulbs for extended periods of time, but not making eye contact with people. His speech was delayed and he had extreme reactions to sound, light, and water. As a toddler, he lined up all these toy trains in a row and did 300-piece jigsaw puzzles in under an hour. While he was non-verbal, you could tell he was brilliant.

I knew something was wrong when he was about 4 months old, but the doctors chalked it up to me being a nervous first-time mom and tried to reassure me that everything was ok. My mom gut told me that was not the case and I began a quest to find out what was wrong. I left my career for five years and spent my days taking my son to therapy, all kinds of therapy: speech, occupational, physical, behavioral, vision, and music. I wouldn’t stop until I had answers and was determined to “fix” him. So we tried different diets like dairy-free, gluten-free, and casein-free. We tried Eastern medicine treatments like barometric chambers and foot detoxes. Some worked, some didn’t. The real change was in me – I realized he wasn’t broken at all. While therapies helped him learn coping strategies to better assimilate into the world, he is pretty awesome just the way he is. He was created and gifted to me to be his mom and I have learned so much along the way in our journey together. Ultimately, he was diagnosed with autism when he was 3 years old and today is thriving as a high school senior with dreams of going to college for an engineering degree.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next, you can tell us more about your business.

Stacey has had a passion for design and for creating special spaces that evoke the feeling of home since she was a child rearranging the furnishings in the custom dollhouse that her Nana kept for her at her house. Having spent over twenty years in the building industry specializing in kitchen and bath goods, she loved following design trends and working with architects and interior designers to curate unique spaces in the hospitality and multi-family channels. These luxurious designs brought inspiration that she parlayed into her own home, making high end design approachable and functional. Stacey would love to do the same for you.

Stacey grew up in the Annapolis, Maryland area which greatly inspired her modern, coastal design style. She spent her childhood sailing, crabbing and enjoying all that the waters along the Chesapeake Bay have to offer. She believes that each home should tell the story of you through collected treasures from the past combined with the modern, clean lines of today. Reach out and let her create a perfectly curated nest for you. After all, home is where your story begins…

What makes you happy?

I am a pretty happy person in general. One of my favorite sayings is what you think about, you bring about. It is my conscious choice to see what’s good in the world. Is it easy? Not every day, but it does become more natural with practice. The more I stay in that mindset and do it, the less effort it takes. Also, a great playlist helps. I sing “Walking On Sunshine” by Katrina and The Waves in my head when I walk down the street, so that keeps me smiling and probably dancing a little too.

What makes me happy? In no particular order – dinner with my family around the table, the sound of my children laughing, reading a great book in the hammock, dancing in the kitchen with my husband, tacos! A great pair of shoes that don’t hurt my feet, the sunshine on my face on a perfect spring day, windows down and radio up in the car kind of day, getting to serve others and to give back to my community.
