Hidden Gems: Meet Ryan Albertson of LABRADUTY

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ryan Albertson.

Hi Ryan, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I had spent over 20 years in the boat business and never felt truly fulfilled, so I took a break from it. I started looking into other industries and have always been interested in waste management, composting and recycling and clean water. Being an avid boater clean water is very important to me. Pet waste managment kept popping up and at first I thought it was a joke but turns out there are big business in this sector. More and more I looked at it the more interesting it got. One thing I noticed was that all these companies show trophy pics of the dumpsters full of plastic bags of dog poop….headed towards the landfill. Being a lover of nature and hater of plastic waste it became apparent that I must find a better way to handle it. I use only certified compostable bags, no plastic! it is way more expensive but its the right way to do it. The problem still lies in the landfill and I am working on that solution now.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
This is a very new business and just as I started to spend money on marketing and participating in local events. One of my parents became ill and I had to leave for several weeks. No customers, money spent and not able to work on anything was very challenging. I am sure there will be many more. Getting the first customers has also been tough. but I am getting on plane now.

As you know, we’re big fans of LABRADUTY . For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
We scoop poop but wait, there is more! We are innovating the pet waste business by keeping plastic bags of poop out of the landfill, we are keeping the water clean buy scooping the poop and we are now starting the composting of the poop to keep it out of the landfill and turn it into something useful. There is also a biomass plant being built locally which may also be a good use of the poop.

Everyone love the name, I wanted to look clean and professional but friendly and funny all at the same time. I have a Labradore and he is the best dog ever. I feel like it is my duty to clean this business up and keep our waters clean. so LabraDuty it is.

Dog poop is one of the top polluters in our waters. I am educating, innovating, providing a service and creating a fun place to work that is absolute in doing good for the environment.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
Truly caring about people and the mission and staying true to it. Always doing the right thing. Always be innovating..
