Hidden Gems: Meet Rebekah Gahimer of Reverie Massage and Wellness

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rebekah Gahimer.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I began working in the massage industry in 2012 as a wellness associate and quickly worked my way up to assistant manager. Seven years passed, and I found myself postpartum with my second child. Postpartum depression hit me hard; it was truly one of the scariest and hardest times in my life. I stepped down from management and disconnected for a while. I believe that receiving massage therapy and energy work from my coworkers was one of the things that helped dig me out of that hole, bit by bit. It was then that I decided I wanted to provide that same level of healing to others in need.

As I went through schooling, I slowly started unraveling parts of myself that I had buried for so long. I felt myself begin to let go of old infrastructures that had me bound in certain ways of thinking, and I began to listen to myself for the first time in a long time. Massage therapy was transformative for me.

Now, nearly six years in, I’ve worked to create a space that I believe is really special. It may be small and just gaining its footing, but it is home. I’ve met so many wonderful clients, and I always strive to provide a space of safety and love. As a member of the LGBTQIA+ community myself, I know that in the world we live in today, it can be hard to feel like you can truly be yourself. I want to be that safe harbor for my clients. Regardless of your ethnicity, sexuality, gender identity, or body shape, I want you to know that you are always welcome in my studio and will feel ten times better for being here.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road at all, but it hasn’t been treacherous either. I’ve managed as best I can. When I decided to open my own space, the right opportunity just fell into my lap: I met a brilliant wax studio owner who happened to be looking to fill one of her rooms. For the first seven months, I worked both my position at a chain massage spa and my own private practice. That was rough! I worked a lot, and with two school-aged kids at home, it was not for the faint of heart.

But with the summer of ’25 approaching, I felt it was time to go completely out on my own to gain better flexibility for my family and my business. By October, the owner of the space I was renting had some medical issues and ended up closing down completely. I was left to find a new space and move in within a two-week timeframe. Whew! It was hectic, but it ended up working out well.

I love my new space and have worked really hard to capture my business’s namesake—Reverie Massage and Wellness—in the atmosphere and decor. To me, “reverie” is a state where you can drift off into sweet dreams or thoughts, leaving the outside world behind. I hope that is exactly what my clients find when they step through my doors.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Reverie Massage and Wellness is a safe and inclusive space in Summerville, SC, offering a variety of services from traditional massage therapy (including swedish, prenatal, and oncology) to specialized treatments like reflexology and wood therapy. What truly sets my practice apart is the safety and genuine care my clients feel when they come to see me. The world is hectic enough; sometimes, you just need someone to listen and help you feel at ease.

I have long maintained that massage isn’t just about “fixing a problem” or releasing a “knot.” Your body is self-healing, though sometimes that process can take a little longer on its own. What my sessions do is allow your body to feel safe enough to change—to finally let go and stop protecting its areas of tension. Once that sense of safety is established, the true release comes.

While I offer a variety of popular services, including wood therapy, dry brushing, and sculpting facial massages, I am probably best known for my reflexology sessions. This is a concentrated, 60-minute experience dedicated to your feet that creates a whole-body impact. We begin with a soothing foot scrub, followed by detailed line work and then deeper work into points that connect to the body’s organs and systems. The session concludes with chakra-balancing energy work, ensuring you leave feeling fully grounded and restored.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
I’ve really had to learn how to trust myself and speak up for myself. It’s something I am still working on to this day, but I know I cannot accomplish my goals if I am not confident in who I am. I’m learning to put myself out there more—both in ways that help my business be seen and in ways that allow me to feel like a true part of the community. I want to work alongside others to make a positive impact on the lives of everyone who lives and works here in Summerville.
