Hidden Gems: Meet Randi Weinstein of FAB

Today we’d like to introduce you to Randi Weinstein

Hi Randi, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My whole story is way too long for this piece, but the short version is, I was director of events and logistics for the Charleston Wine + Food Festival for 7 years. After I left there I went into restaurant operations for a local restaurant group. It was then I along with two other women began a series called Bad Bitches and showcased women’s rise in the hospitality industry through the decades beginning in the 50’s through the decade we’re in now. We raised money through scholarships to help women further their journey in this industry.
The band broke up so to speak and I facilitated the scholarships and it didn’t matter how much each person received, they could not believe that someone wanted to assist them financially. It was at that time I thought that the biggest failure is not understanding the business of the industry and due to that I developed a curriculum to reach various sectors of the industry. Those in the beginning stages of their career, and those that are accomplished, but still want to be able to learn more from others.
We are headed into year 9 of FAB and have grown from 34 speakers and 20 panels of content in year one to 64 national speakers with over 62 conversations that take place over a 3-day period.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Nothing is a smooth road! The bumps along the way are learning lessons that we take from year to year to make ourselves and our workshop stronger. There have only been a handful of struggles, but a timely setup and weather are some big one that we face yearly.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
FAB is a business workshop for women in the food + beverage industry. FAB is an acronym that has many meanings, but Females and Business is the main meaning. We bring in over 60 national speakers that fit every cog that makes up running a business. We are headed into year 9 and we keep growing due to the attendees requests and need.
I am most proud that we are a totally transparent and zero bullshit workshop. Every speaker has to be willing to share their knowledge and honesty of how they have made it to where they currently are and how they got there. There is no hierarchy and connections and communication are incredibly strong. The best speaker doesn’t know if they are more excited to be a speaker or an attendee as they have so much still to learn from other incredible speakers, and some incredible attendees. The workshop takes place each June in Charleston, SC.

How do you define success?
I define success on how our speakers and attendees respond to our programming and we make our supporters feel.
