Hidden Gems: Meet Pat Tantikul of A-Roi Thai Food Truck

Today we’d like to introduce you to Pat Tantikul.

Pat, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
We move to Charleston in mid of 2023. We are originally born and raised in Bangkok, Thailand. My background is in cooperated real estate company but then we moved to Bogota, Colombia in 2021 and I started my tiny Thai restaurant there before decided to move to the State. First we began our business from Thai food pop-up tent with my 2 kids. We wandered around 5 days a week from North Charleston to James Island and back to Mount Pleasant. People started loving our food and we became more recognized by words of mouth, so we decided maybe it’s time we should step up another level. So I bought a pre-ownded food trailer and spent 6months renovating and decorating until we pass all the permits.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
During 6months of renovating our food trailer is the hardest and toughest time. I had to control the budget so we had to do most of the work ourself and also we had to run the pop-up tent events as well because we can’t only spent our budget on new trailer without making more revenue. Also some people love our food and some don’t due to shortage of manpower sometime we couldn’t make everything ready like a fastfood restaurant but every dish are fresh cook that’s what I can guarantee.

We’ve been impressed with A-Roi Thai Food Truck, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We are Authentic Thai food on the wheel. I would say we are probably the only one Thai foodtruck at this moment that serve Charleston area including James Island, John Island and Mount Pleasant.

We are focusing on famous Thai street food and appetizer. Such as Padthai and Pad see ew are our main course. And appetizer that’s easy to grab because we wander to events, breweries and bar where most people might not need a fine dining table so we just want people to get delicious, high quality, easy to grab and great amount of portion size that worth their money.
