Hidden Gems: Meet Nikia Jones of Klassy Handz

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nikia Jones

Hi Nikia, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Well, it started when I was in high school. I would braid family & friends hair basically for free, just quick styles. At the time, I really didn’t see myself as a hair stylist. Years later, after having children of my own, my daughters’ stylist relocated and I had to come out of retirement. Lol. Was getting so many compliments, that’s when COVID hit, & I needed a hustle. That hustle turned into a business, Klassy Handz.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There is nothing smooth about building a business, any business at that. My biggest struggles along the way were building a clientele. No one is not willing to let a newbie do anything to their hair. Also, my mind was a struggle. I had to learn to get out of my own way.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
At Klassy Handz, we specialize in an array of natural hair care and braided styles. We are a home away from home for our clients and strive to leave them in love with their crowns! When people see my brand I want people to smile and say their experience here was stupendous. I am most proud that I was able to step out on faith & build a brand that one day this can be my legacy & a blessings to others. Currently as a licensed braider, but SOON to be cosmetologist, I offer braids, quick weave, locs, many other services for people of all ages.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
My favorite childhood memory or memories are being free, & being with my family. I have witnessed so much people in my family hustle. Literally, everyone was some type of hustler. I didn’t have the best life coming up, I am grateful for the experiences I’ve had because of what I’ve witnessed, it really made me who I am today.
