Hidden Gems: Meet Nicole Will of Asheville Wellness Tours

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicole Will.

Hi Nicole, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My adventurous heart has led me along a unique career path. I’ve lived and worked at a ski resort in California, a fly fishing ranch in CO, a high adventure camp in the FL Keys, as a wilderness therapy instructor for at-risk adolescents in the Blue Ridge Mountains, and as a hiking guide in the Ecuadorian Andes and Great Smoky Mountains. I started a company organizing adventure wellness retreats in South America before landing in Asheville, NC, where I now craft unique mini-wellness retreats through my company Asheville Wellness Tours. As I settled in Asheville, I wanted to continue to share the adventure and the healing power of time spent in nature with others. A friend and I started Asheville Wellness Tours with two offerings: a walking tour downtown and yoga hiking adventures in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Since then, our “menu” has expanded to include tarot, massage, goat yoga, forest bathing, and much more. Everything we do is designed to help our guests connect more deeply with themselves, each other, and Asheville! We specialize in crafting custom mini-retreats for groups, whether that might be a girl’s getaway, corporate retreat, wedding weekend, or family gathering. Our passion is to prepare experiences that support well-being in a fun, lighthearted ways, so guests feel refreshed, rejuvenated, and relaxed after every adventure.

Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Has it been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has been a challenging journey. I started Asheville Wellness Tours alongside a fabulous business partner and friend in 2017. She exited a couple of years later to focus on motherhood and sold her part of the business to another wonderful local businesswoman. Unfortunately, when the pandemic hit, this new partner’s priorities shifted, necessitating her exit from the business. At that point, I struggled quite a bit, wondering if I could push through the stress of a flood of cancellations and an unpredictable future as a solopreneur. I had struggled with prioritizing self-care to avoid burnout, made mistakes along the way that cost thousands of dollars when budgets were particularly tight, and been in a regular battle against scarcity mentality. It hasn’t always been easy, but there have been plenty of magical, powerful moments along the way, and I am incredibly grateful for the support I’ve received – often from unexpected sources. I enjoy the challenge and am excited to see where it takes me next.

Let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
