Hidden Gems: Meet Natalia Jackson of Charleston Permanent Makeup

Today we’d like to introduce you to Natalia Jackson

Hi Natalia, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
As I was growing up, I felt like I had been cheated in life because I didn’t have nice bold eyebrows. My eyebrows were sparse and thin. I always felt like my face looked incomplete. Every year I would ask for eyebrows for my birthday! I was in my early 20’s when I had my first permanent makeup brows. Needless to say, I finally felt like my face looked complete.

In 2014 I had my first microblading procedure and suddenly I felt so much more confident. It was during that time that I began to consider that this may be my career path. I wanted to help others feel good about their appearance, like I felt.

In 2016, I was newly married and had moved from Idaho to South Carolina. I had always worked in medical administrative jobs or the food industry and I knew that was not where I wanted to be forever. At the end of one of my eyebrow appointments, I asked the artist where she had received her training. I made some inquiries at several different training academy’s and found a Microblading course in Miami FL. With my husbands blessing, I went and this began my new career in Microblading.

In January 2018, after my apprenticeship, I was finally able to put my training to work and started at a plastic surgery clinic in Mt Pleasant. After 6 months, or so, I decided I wanted to know more about this technique and wanted to keep on learning and educating myself in the permanent makeup industry. I learned how to do machine powder brows, lip blushing and eyeliner. This was when I found my true passion! I loved using a tattoo machine to create beautiful brows, lips and eyeliner. Over the years I also chose to continue my “on-going” education and became certified to do advanced brows, advanced lip blushing, and paramedical tattooing. I have had many opportunities to help people who are wanting scars camouflaged with their own skin color. I have also helped those who have had cleft lips or scars on and around their mouths. I love to help people feel confident about their appearance and create a transformation for them that goes beyond the surface by creating a positive change within them.

For the last 5 years, I have been working in the West Ashley area building my portfolio and business. I am always pushing myself to learn more with training and education. My love for the permanent makeup industry has taught me that permanent makeup is not just about beauty, it’s about giving people the reflection they’ve always DESERVED to see.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
You are tattooing someone’s face. Permanent makeup can be pretty nerve-racking for clients! So, building my business took some time. It took about 1.5-2 years to build a solid portfolio and following. After building my brand, I was able to gain loyal clients who referred me to their friends, family members, and co-workers.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I started Charleston Permanent Makeup about 5 years ago. Before that I worked for different medical offices in the area. It wasn’t until I started working at a medical spa in the West Ashley area, that I started to distinguish my brand and business as Charleston Permanent Makeup.
I absolutely love doing permanent makeup for so many reasons; 1. I get to meet many new women and men with such different and unique backgrounds. 2. I get to help others feel more confident by enhancing their natural beauty with creating the brows they may have never had or giving a client who was born with a cleft lip, their first ever cupids bow (the center of one’s top lip). The passion I have for permanent makeup has lead me to start sharing my knowledge with others that are wanting to join the industry.
The services I currently offer are; three different brow techniques (Nano strokes, Combination Brows and Powder Ombre Brows), three different eyeliner techniques (Traditional Top/Bottom, Lash Enhancement, and Shaded Top eyeliner), scar camouflaging and Lip Blushing! I carrying 6 different certifications in Brow and Eyeliner techniques. I am 3x certified in Lip Blushing, plus certified in Advanced & Restorative Lip blushing. I enjoy being able to help create a more symmetrical mouth shape to individuals who have scars, cleft lips, and burns, Every client has a story and I feel so honored to be part of their journey!

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
I was actually born in Bogota Colombia and adopted and brought back to the US when I was 6 weeks old. I was raised and grew up in Eagle, a small town outside of Boise, Idaho. I am fortunate to have been able to go back to Colombia with my family and my kids to see the beautiful country I am from! I have loved learning about the Colombian culture in my adulthood and embrace that part of my identity.
I moved to SC in 2016 after just a year of dating my husband. He was born and raised in South Carolina and is not a fan of the colder and longer winters in Idaho. So, I decided, why not try a new city! I have loved living here and the opportunities that Charleston has given not just to me but to our family!
Our family includes 3 beautiful children. My oldest daughter is 25, currently lives in Idaho. My son is 23 and still lives here while finishing up college. Back in 2021, my husband and I welcomed another little girl! Being a mom is such a wonderful joy and my babies mean the world to me!
