Today we’d like to introduce you to Megan Rome.
Hi Megan, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
After graduating from physical therapy school, I noticed something that would change the direction of my career. My mom was still experiencing pain at her C-section scar more than 30 years after giving birth to me and my sister. That moment sparked my curiosity about cesarean scars—and more importantly, how little care and attention they receive in postpartum recovery.
I began taking my first pelvic floor courses and quickly realized how significant the gap was in women’s health care. There was a clear lack of education, treatment, and support for women during pregnancy, postpartum, and beyond.
A few years later, my sister gave birth to her first child and struggled with postpartum recovery. Watching her navigate that season made something very clear to me: with better preparation for birth and proper postpartum care, her recovery—and overall mental and physical health—could have been so different.
That realization fueled my mission to help women feel stronger, more prepared, and more supported through pregnancy, birth, and postpartum recovery.
Fast forward a few more years, I became a mom myself. I’ve since had two children, and my own experiences further solidified why this work matters so deeply. Today, I’m a mom of two, a co-author of Nobody Told Me About That, and the owner of Rome Physical Therapy, where I treat women with pelvic health and women’s health conditions. I’ve also had the opportunity to share this message on many podcasts, helping spread awareness about pelvic health and the care women deserve—but so often never receive.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Has it been a smooth road? No.
I opened Rome Physical Therapy in 2019 after moving back from Florida. About a year into building the practice and networking with other incredible entrepreneurs in Charleston, COVID hit.
2020 was truly a year for the ride. I shifted to virtual appointments, virtual networking, and virtual workshops with fitness studios and like-minded professionals throughout Charleston. It was challenging, especially because I thrive on being out in the community and building relationships in person.
As things began to level out, I entered a new season of life—becoming a mom. I had my daughter in 2022 and my son in 2024. The past few years have been full of both highs and lows, personally and professionally, but I wouldn’t change any of it.
Owning a business is stressful and demanding, and I work more hours than I ever would in a traditional 9-to-5. However, I’ve grown an incredible team that allows us to support even more women, and I truly love what I do. My passion for pelvic health—and for helping women feel supported in their bodies—continues to drive everything we do at Rome Physical Therapy.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Rome Physical Therapy is a women’s and pelvic health physical therapy practice focused on helping women feel comfortable, confident, and connected to their bodies from the inside out. We specialize in treating women through every stage of life—from fertility and pregnancy to birth, postpartum recovery, menopause, and beyond.
Our areas of expertise include pelvic pain, back and hip pain, core weakness, bowel and bladder dysfunction, prolapse, cesarean and vaginal birth recovery, and the physical changes that occur during pregnancy and menopause. We also support women who are trying to conceive, helping optimize movement, strength, and pelvic health as part of their fertility journey.
What truly sets Rome Physical Therapy apart is our whole-body, mind-body approach to care. We believe healing happens when women understand their bodies, feel safe in the treatment space, and are empowered throughout the process. Every session is one-on-one, hands-on, and fully individualized. We assess the body as a whole—addressing posture, breathing, nervous system regulation, strength, mobility, and the pelvic floor—to get to the root cause of symptoms rather than simply treating pain in isolation.
Our therapists have advanced, specialized training in women’s and pelvic health and take the time to assess all layers of the pelvic floor, both internally and externally, in multiple positions including lying down and standing. This allows us to provide thoughtful, comprehensive care that leads to lasting relief.
Brand-wise, I am most proud of the environment we have created. Rome Physical Therapy is known for being a space where women feel heard, respected, and supported—physically and emotionally. We focus on education, transparency, and collaboration, helping women build confidence in their bodies and trust in the healing process.
What I want readers to know is that pelvic health symptoms are common, but they are not normal—and women deserve care that looks at the full picture. At Rome Physical Therapy, our mission is to change the way women experience healthcare by connecting mind and body, restoring function, and helping women move through life with confidence and ease.
Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
My biggest advice is to simply get out there and try. I’ve sent countless emails, Instagram messages, and cold calls—and I’ve even walked into local businesses just to introduce myself and start a conversation. Not every connection turns into something, and that’s okay.
What has worked best for me is leading with genuine intention. I focus on building relationships with professionals I truly believe can support my patient population, not just networking for the sake of networking. When you treat from the heart and connect from the heart, people feel that. Those authentic relationships tend to grow naturally into mentorships, collaborations, and long-term professional support.
