Hidden Gems: Meet Jonathan Garces of MarketFresh Studios

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jonathan Garces.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’ve been in Graphic Design and Web Design since 2001 when I went to college for Digital Media at UCF. While I was in college I got a job doing 3d modeling for training simulation, and at the same time started a clothing company with a friend. The clothing company was a great creative outlet and forced me into web design since we needed a website to promote the business.

After college I did a lot of freelance work designing logos, print materials, and websites.

I came up with the name MarketFresh Studios as my freelance side-gig back in 2007, and it became my full-time business in the beginning of 2017 shortly after we moved the Charlotte, NC.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
That first year in 2017 going full-time with MarketFresh was tough. Finding clients organically as a “new” business in a new location was a challenge. We did manage to grow almost every year since then. We had one or two unusually slow years after the pandemic probably due to the slow economy, but things have been looking good the past few years. One of our biggest struggles was finding good freelancers to work with since I can’t do all the work myself. We now have some highly talented and dependable designers on the team, but we had to go through some bad ones to get to where we are now.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about MarketFresh Studios?
MarketFresh Studios is a full-service design firm. We specialize in web design, website maintenance, logo design, marketing materials design, social media management and more.
For web design we specialize in WordPress websites, but our capabilities go beyond WordPress. We’ve done Shopify sites, completely custom sites outside of a Content Management System and more.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
The Lake Wylie, Clover and York areas is where we consider home. We love the small-town feel, the friendly people and the relaxed vibe. At the same time, it is growing, and we’re seeing more businesses coming in. We love that!
What we don’t love is all the traffic! We’re dealing with the classic problem of increased development without road expansion.
