Today we’d like to introduce you to Jamya Jackson.
Hi Jamya , thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My journey into the beauty industry started long before I realized it would become my career. I grew up surrounded by beauty and self-care. My cousin, Marquita Briggs, introduced me to hair shows at a young age, while my godmother was always exposing me to different beauty products—from press-on nails and nail polish to perfumes and so much more. I also took modeling classes, which helped me develop an appreciation for beauty, confidence, and self-expression.
As I got into my teenage years, I began feeling uncomfortable in my own skin. My mom didn’t always have the resources for me to explore different skincare products, so I became creative. I would go into the kitchen and make my own beauty treatments from scratch—everything from turmeric masks to mayonnaise hair masks. What started as curiosity eventually made me realize that skincare was an actual profession and that I could turn something I genuinely loved into a career.
Before attending esthetics school, I also began exploring holistic wellness. I transitioned to a plant-based lifestyle and spent two to three years without eating meat, while taking herbs . During that time, I became much more intentional about what I put into my body and how I cared for myself. That experience deepened my belief that beauty and wellness go hand in hand.
My journey also introduced me to holistic care in a deeper way. I met Dr. Wages, who I lovingly call my “business mom.” She has pushed me, guided me, and helped me grow tremendously. Through being around her and her practice, I was introduced to different forms of holistic wellness, including colonics, foot detoxes, alkaline therapy, and other approaches to caring for the body as a whole.
Today, I’m a holistic esthetician, and I see beauty as much more than what we see on the outside. My passion is helping people feel confident in their skin while encouraging them to take care of themselves from the inside out. Everything I’ve experienced—from making skincare in my mother’s kitchen to learning about holistic wellness—has shaped the esthetician and entrepreneur I am today.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Of course not. I’ve had my share of ups and downs, and honestly, those experiences have shaped me into the business owner and esthetician I am today.
I initially started as a lash technician, but over time I realized that my heart was really in skincare. I love seeing meaningful, long-term results, especially when it comes to corrective skincare. I also realized that I don’t just want to focus on what’s happening on the outside—I want to be able to help people understand and care for themselves from the inside out.
There was a point in my journey where I had to completely start over. I lost clients because I wasn’t running my business as effectively as I could have been, and I had to be honest with myself about the areas where I needed to grow. That was a humbling experience, but it taught me some of my biggest lessons about consistency, accountability, and truly treating my business like a business.
I also became a mother to my beautiful baby boy, which brought another major transition into my life. In some ways, it felt like a setback, but looking back, it was actually the push I needed. Motherhood motivated me to return to school, expand my knowledge, and take my passion for holistic health more seriously.
My journey hasn’t been perfect, but every setback has redirected me toward something greater. I’m still growing, still learning, and still becoming the woman and entrepreneur I know I’m meant to be.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Golden Aesthetics is a holistic skincare and wellness brand centered around helping people feel confident in their skin while understanding that true beauty starts from within. I specialize in waxing, lashes, eyebrows and most importantly corrective skincare and customized treatments designed to support concerns such as acne, hyperpigmentation, texture, and overall skin health.
One thing that makes Golden Aesthetics unique is that I don’t believe skincare should be one-size-fits-all. I’m passionate about understanding the person behind the skin and educating my clients on how their lifestyle, self-care, nutrition, and overall wellness can influence their skin.
In addition to my skincare services, I’ve also developed my own clay cleansing soaps and French clay scrubs. Creating products has allowed me to bring my passion for skincare into my clients’ homes and give them tools they can incorporate into their everyday routines. My clay cleansing soaps are created with the intention of providing a deeper cleansing experience, while my French clay scrubs focus on exfoliation and helping clients maintain smoother, refreshed-looking skin.
I’m especially proud of the fact that Golden Aesthetics has grown beyond simply providing beauty services. What started with my love for beauty has evolved into a brand rooted in corrective skincare, self-care, education, and holistic wellness.
At Golden Aesthetics, my goal is for every client to leave feeling more confident, more educated, and more connected to their own self-care. Whether they’re receiving a customized facial, incorporating one of my clay-based products into their routine, or simply learning more about their skin, I want them to understand that skincare is not just about how you look—it’s about how you care for yourself.
I’m proud to be building a brand where beauty, wellness, and education come together, and I’m excited to continue expanding Golden Aesthetics and creating products and experiences that encourage people to invest in themselves from the inside out.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
My biggest advice is to be intentional and take your time learning yourself, your strengths, and your niche. Don’t feel like you have to rush the process just because you see someone else moving faster. Be present, stay professional, stay positive, and allow yourself to grow.
I’ve learned that golden opportunities take time. A lot of the opportunities that have come my way almost felt like they fell into my lap, but I also believe I had to be prepared for them when they arrived.
I would also strongly encourage anyone starting out to find an intentional mentor—someone who genuinely wants to guide you, challenge you, and help you grow. I’ve been blessed to meet mentors who have poured into me and pushed me beyond what I thought I was capable of, and that guidance has made a huge difference in my journey.
Most importantly, don’t rush to become someone else’s version of success. Learn yourself, trust your timing, stay consistent, and keep showing up. What’s meant for you will find you, but you have to be prepared to receive it when it does.
