Hidden Gems: Meet Dawn Blackstone of Blackstone Fit

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dawn Blackstone.

Hi Dawn, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started working out at 13 years old out to get stronger for sports. But soon after movement, strength, and nutrition became my lifelong passions. I didn’t begin my professional life in fitness as I started as a commisioned artist after college. Creativity was my first language, but over time I realized that the part of me that lit up the most came alive when I was helping people feel better in their bodies. Eventually, I followed my calling and I never looked back. I opened a training studio in 2007, then after 10 years I went mobile when my son was born. I’ve been in the industry for over twenty years now, and through all the phases and trends, I found the place where I belong: working with adults my age and older. I’m passionate about mobility, balance, strength, and the idea that aging should feel empowered, not limiting. Helping someone in their 50s, 60s, 70s, and 80’s gain strength, reduce pain, and reclaim their independence is what fuels me!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I wouldn’t say its been a completely smooth road, but definately worth the ride! Like many small-business owners, I’ve had to juggle raising a family, moving cross country and rebuilding my business from scratch in a new town.
But every challenge has helped me grow into the coach I am today. I meet people exactly where they are and together we get stronger.

As you know, we’re big fans of Blackstone Fit. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
My business, Blackstone Fit, is built around my core belief: fitness should meet you where you are, at any age or ability level. I specialize in helping adults 50+, seniors, and anyone navigating physical limitations—whether that’s recovering strength after cancer, improving balance and mobility, pysical disabilities, or learning how to move with confidence again. One of the things I’m most proud of is the small class I teach for elderly women in our little rural town. We meet at a local church and focus on mobility, strength, balance, and functional movement. It’s not just a workout—it’s a community. Many of these women have faced health challenges, and watching them regain strength, stability, and independence has been one of the most meaningful parts of my career.
Beyond the group class, I work one-on-one with clients of all ages, including elderly individuals recovering from cancer treatments, dealing with chronic pain, or rebuilding stability after injuries. I tailor everything—workouts, nutrition guidance, and mindset coaching—to each person’s needs. What sets my brand apart is that I don’t believe in quick fixes or one-size-fits-all fitness. I’m known for creating long-term, sustainable change and for training people others might overlook—those who feel intimidated by gyms, those with limitations, or those who simply want to feel strong again. My approach is equal parts corrective exercise, encouragement, education, and understanding & creativity.
I want readers to know that Blackstone Fit is more than training; it’s a partnership. My goal is to help people live longer, move better, and enjoy their lives fully, no matter their starting point. That’s the heart of my brand and the work I’m most proud of!!

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
The quality that has contributed most to my success is my ability to truly meet people where they are. I listen, I adapt, and I never judge anyone’s starting point. My clients feel safe, supported, inspired, motivated and understood,
Consistency, creativity, and compassion have also played a huge role. I don’t just give people workouts—I build relationships, encourage them through setbacks, and help them believe in their own strength. That combination of empathy, patience, and accountability is what keeps clients with me for years and what makes this work meaningful
