Today we’d like to introduce you to David Simms.
Hi David, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started in the Medicare Insurance Business in 2010 initially as a side job to supplement my income as an aspiring Pilot. I fell in love with helping seniors and that made me move full time into the Medicare insurance business. I loved how everyday I was just helping people have a better life because I could reduce what they were spending on their healthcare. Many of my clients would give me homemade canned goods or desserts as a thank you for making their life a little easier. I loved coming home and telling my wife how I helped someone to have a little more grocery money or to get the medical they needed but couldn’t afford. Knowing that many of my clients had outlived their friends and family I knew they needed more than just an insurance agent. I answer my phone 7 days a week because I know that they may need some answers, or reassurance about what to do in their situation. Looking back over the last 15 years, this has been my most rewarding career. I started life as an automotive technician working in a dealership as young as 14 years old, I loved cars and still do today, I restore old cars and hotrods in my spare time. When my son was about 11 years old it was obvious he didn’t want to be a mechanic, so I went in the computer sales and repair business so I could help him to have a career. We loved that business and enjoyed living in Swansboro NC for 15 years, but alas my parents were aging and needed care so we sold out and moved to Elkin NC. I planned to semi-retire but income was scarce so I became a pilot and loved traveling and flying various aircraft. It was hard to make a living and be home at the same time so that is what started me doing insurance. Best thing I have ever done.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Insurance has always been a moving target and presidential changes make it a roller coaster. Being consistent and available makes for success.
