Today we’d like to introduce you to CeLisa Patterson.
Hi CeLisa, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I began my undergrad in 2009 and received a Bachelor of Science in Human Services from Southern Wesleyan University in Central, SC. I took a year off and then started the Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling in 2014 from Webster University in Greenville, SC. I always knew I wanted to go to college and earn a degree that would allow me to help others.
When I first began my journey as a mental health therapist, I wanted to work with women who were battling Substance Use Disorders. I was able to do so and developed a program while working for a treatment facility to help women recover from addiction. That program also provided housing and connections with community organizations.
During my time with that program, I discovered that there was so much that contributed to Substance Use and I wanted to expand my knowledge and experience as a therapist.
After leaving that program, I worked for a non-profit that partnered with DSS. It was during my time working with the non-profit that I began my private practice, Agape Transformation Counseling LLC.
I moved on from working in Non-Profit organizations to working in residential and outpatient settings that treat mental health disorders while building my private practice. So far, private practice is great and I am loving it!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I have experienced multiple obstacles and challenges to get where I am. It hasn’t been easy (and sometimes still isn’t). I have refused to give up or give in.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Agape Transformation Counseling, LLC?
Agape Transformation Counseling, LLC is a place of love and acceptance. My practice is a place where individuals dealing with mental health and other issues can feel safe, not judged and be their authentic self. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (ADC), and a Certified Clinical Partner Specialist Candidate (CCPS-C) in the state of SC. I specialize in Substance Use Disorders, Anxiety, Depression and Betrayal Trauma and other Trauma. I work with ages 16 and up for individual, couple, family and group counseling.
What sets me apart from others is my life experiences that have graced me with understanding a lot of the issues that clients are experiencing. I engage with them on a genuine and authentic level and I tell them what they need to hear not what they want to hear while challenging them to do the hard things to gain the healing that they are seeking.
I am most proud of the positive experience clients have shared either verbally in session or through reviews about Agape Transformation Counseling, LLC. We offer in-person and virtual therapy sessions and Psychoeducation. We will be offering the following groups for Women and Men: Betrayal Trauma Groups, Intergenerational Trauma and/or other Trauma Groups and Self-Love Groups in 2026. Sometime in the future, we plan to offer Coaching.
How do you think about luck?
Luck has nothing to do with it. I KNOW that God is the reason I am at the place in my life that I am. It is God that has kept me through my seasons of life and it is God that continues to lead and guide me.
