Today we’d like to introduce you to Brookelynn Little.
Hi Brookelynn, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I have always been passionate about the youth, and serving as a role model for them. I have been very active in the community and have grown to know our city. Through these experiences, I’ve noticed the lack of outreach to a specific demographic, and one of the most important in my eyes- young black girls. As black women, the trials we have to go through in this country can be discouraging in itself, let alone addition struggles our youth is facing. I knew a change was needed. I have seen stories of bullying, viewed drop out rates, etc. I know the negative impact that insecurity, generational ways of thinking, negative mindset and enforced societal stereotypes can have. I thought to myself, how can I help to eliminate this problem, and assure struggling young women, “You are capable.” I have seen my confidence grow throughout my life experience– I want to serve as the role model I would have wanted at a young age. I believe that confidence can open doors to innovation. Through this non-profit I strive to touch the lives of everyone involved, to motivate and inspire. My mission is to motivate young black girls towards confidence, education, and transformative mindset– despite any circumstances.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Being an involved college student, balancing academics, multiple organizations, leadership positions and trying to start a non-profit, was NOT easy. I have had to adapt to distinctive time management skills, and even sacrifice my free time. However, I am built on ambition and passion. When I truly care about something, it begins to feel like enjoyment rather than a job. I am powered by prayer. God is at the forefront of everything I do, he serves as my strength and motivation. Therefore, I am able to answer to this demanding lifestyle. So Secure was just established in Februrary. So far, the biggest struggle has been community outreach. Getting our name and message out there is the most important part prior to starting mentorship. So Secure needs to be a name people know about and trust— so they can receive its purpose! I am grateful for the connections I have made to be able to aide me in this process. I am constantly reaching out and showing what this organization has to offer!
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
So Secure is an emerging non-profit plan, dedicated to providing guidance to young girls of color through events, service, and mentorship. This organization focuses on building mindset and confidence to reduce effects of bullying, discouragement, insecurity, etc. We are determined to break the boundaries of stereotypes, generational curses, and low income areas. We believe in community service and leadership, serving as role models for youth, and staying motivated through faith. The goal is to aid in curating empowered black women that are motivated towards education/goals! In the near future we hope to present many opportunities to the Greenville community: Special events and workshops, tools for success, community building, donation drives, and close-knit mentorship. This movement will be revolutionary, stay tuned! Lookout for upcoming opportunities such as our “Summer Service Troupe” and our Mentorship Program. Please contact us at sosecureorganization@gmail.com, we are always looking to collaborate!
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
I believe that maintaining a genuine and trustworthy, yet ambitious spirit is crucial in my success. I strongly believe in taking opportunities as blessings and putting them into action! My schedule may be busy, but I am fulfilled in ways I have never been before. Every opportunity I have accepted, I have learned from it and built off of it. This ambition has opened so many doors for me, that I am now able to open for others. Creating connections through networking, and remaining coachable has furthered my success. I have accomplished many things at such a young age (glory be to God), but I am still not where I want to be, nor have I finished the work God has handed me. Knowing this, I try to maintain a positive character, and be reliable to all that I meet. Another important thing is to remain a resource. I love being available to guide others, which most likely fuels my passion for public speaking. I have had a testimony- we all have. It is important to share those encouragements and experiences, you never know who needs to hear it! When it is all said and done, I do not only want to be remembered for my accomplishments, but also for my character.
