Today we’d like to introduce you to Angel Wright.
Hi Angel , so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I’ve spent most of my adult life creating spaces where people can learn, grow, and have meaningful conversations.
My career began in education, and over the years, I’ve worked in a variety of roles including classroom teacher, international educator, advocate, college instructor, author, speaker, and entrepreneur. While the titles changed, the work itself remained surprisingly consistent. I have always helped people to navigate challenges, find clarity, build confidence, and communicate more effectively.
Along the way, I began to notice how many personal, professional, and community struggles could be traced back to communication. People often knew what they wanted to say but struggled to say it. Some avoided difficult conversations altogether, and many simply needed a space where they could speak honestly and be heard.
That realization shaped the direction of my work. What began with teaching eventually expanded into writing books, facilitating conversations, speaking, coaching, and creating programs designed to help people communicate with greater intention and responsibility.
Today, I am the founder of SpeakUpSis LLC and the SpeakUpSis Empowerment Center in Augusta, Georgia. Through communication coaching, speaking, workshops, and community experiences, I help individuals and organizations communicate clearly, navigate meaningful conversations, and strengthen their relationships with themselves and others.
Looking back, every chapter of my journey points to the same belief – authentic conversations have the power to change lives, strengthen communities, and build resilience. That belief continues to guide everything I do today.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Is any less-traveled road ever smooth? Lol, I don’t think so.
My journey has included its share of obstacles, but not all of them have been the kind people typically associate with entrepreneurship. There certainly have been financial challenges, unexpected pivots, and moments when the path forward wasn’t clear. Oftentimes, building something great requires moving before you have all the resources, answers, or support you would like to have.
However, some of the greatest challenges I’ve faced involved loss. The loss of people, the loss of ideas that never became what I imagined, and even the loss of versions of myself that no longer fit the work I was being called to do, but that’s what growth will require from all of us.
I’ve also spent much of my life stepping into spaces where I was the new person. Whether in education, international work, advocacy, or entrepreneurship, I’ve often found myself building relationships and credibility from the ground up. When you’re introducing new ideas or creating something that doesn’t already exist, there is no roadmap and no guarantee that others will immediately understand the vision.
However, over time, I have learned that resilience is not about avoiding obstacles and challenges but about continuing to move forward despite them. All “the things” are working for my greater good; I really believe that.
We’ve been impressed with Speak Up Sis, LLC, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
SpeakUpSis, LLC is a communication education and personal development company focused on helping individuals and organizations communicate clearly, responsibly, and with purpose.
Through speaking engagements, workshops, facilitation, communication coaching, and learning experiences, I help people navigate the conversations that matter the most to them. My work spans professional, educational, community, and personal settings, including leadership development, workplace communication, relationship dynamics, group facilitation, and speaking with young people about communication, confidence, and self-expression.
What sets SpeakUpSis, LLC apart from other communication organizations is our approach. While others focus primarily on presentation skills, public speaking, or performance, our work begins with the person. We teach communication as a human experience, which is why someone can benefit from our work whether they’re a corporate leader, a mother of children, a teacher, a nonprofit director, a teenager, or a professional who freezes during meetings. The setting changes, but the human dynamics do not.
Because of that, my work is both practical and personal. The goal is not simply to help someone sound better but to help them trust their own voice in order to communicate with greater clarity, confidence, self-awareness, and intention.
Over the years, SpeakUpSis, LLC has grown to include books, workshops, coaching programs, community conversations, and the SpeakUpSis Empowerment Center in Augusta, Georgia. While the formats have evolved, the mission has remained consistent – to create spaces where people can think, learn, speak, and connect through meaningful conversation.
I’m most proud of watching people come to SpeakUpSis needing us, but they don’t leave needing us. People who work with me and/or SpeakUpSis, LLC leave with greater clarity, confidence, and practical tools they can use in their everyday lives. In a world where many organizations measure success by how long they can keep people cycling through programs, I measure success by how well we’ve prepared them to move forward on their own.
At its core, SpeakUpSis, LLC is built on the belief that authentic conversations help build resilience, strengthen relationships, and create healthier communities.
