Today we’d like to introduce you to Alex LeBron.
Hi Alex , so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I began my adult journey the way many young adults do: by going to college. Driven by the ambition to start and run my own company someday, I decided to study technology, earning a degree in computer science.
After graduating, I spent approximately seven years working for several different companies. During that time, I pursued a few startup ideas, though none came to bear many fruit. Then, in the middle of 2024, my path took an unexpected turn when I was laid off from my software engineering job.
I searched for a new position for several months, but luck wasn’t on my side. Eventually, I reached a point of self-reflection. I thought to myself, “I don’t even really enjoy this stuff, so why am I still trying to find a job doing something I don’t like?” I had grown tired of being stuck inside, confined behind a computer screen all day.
And thus, my current venture, Prodigy Patios & Concrete, was born.
I had always found genuine enjoyment in working on outdoor projects around the house—it just seemed to come naturally to me. A pivotal memory is the time my dad and I semi-built a brick oven fireplace when I was about 12. More recently, I’ve rented skid steers to build a gun range into a hill at my dad’s house. I found that I actually enjoyed the physical labor and liked working in the heat. I am half Puerto Rican after all.
The inspiration for my niche came from my travels. Every time I had been to Europe, I would look at the architecture and ask myself, “Why can’t we build buildings like this anymore?” I realized I could channel that appreciation for elegant construction into something local and tangible.
I settled on patios and concrete as my specialty, aiming to bring sophisticated and elegant outdoor spaces to people’s homes, and eventually, to public spaces. My ultimate vision is to build water features into the many rivers and streams in the area, such as the Reedy River, creating enjoyable and beautiful public spaces for everyone to experience during the summer months.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No, I wouldn’t say it has been exactly smooth. Since this is year one for me, keeping the schedule booked is a constant task that I have to worry about. When I started, I thought June, July and August would be my busiest months. It turns out those were the slowest months. I didn’t realize how much advertising, door knocking and public outreach you needed to do to keep the phone ringing. That’s a recurring weekly task now and something that I am always working on.
We’ve been impressed with Prodigy Patios & Concrete , but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Prodigy Patios & Concrete is a company focused on bringing elegant outdoor spaces to life for customers homes in the Greenville, SC area. We pride ourselves on our efficiency, customer communication, satisfaction and craftsmanship. We specialize in hardscape and concrete projects that utilize pavers, stone, block and concrete. We stand by our work and look to be there to cater to customers when they call. What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
I don’t see the masonry industry changing much over the next 5 years. If there are changes, I think it will be in the customer service side of the industry. I do think we’ll see an uptick in construction over the next 5 years due to the loosening of monetary policy worldwide, but I think the basic operating mechanism of the industry will stay the same. In 1o years I would expect robotics to begin to impact the industry. But how exactly robotics will impact and what will change is too early to tell.
