Hidden Gems: Meet Aashini Shrivastav of Cardinal Wills

Today we’d like to introduce you to Aashini Shrivastav.

Hi Aashini, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Meeting a need is something that drives me on a daily basis, and that is what I have set as the foundation of my career: meeting a need. I worked in public interest law for 4 years, and enjoyed every minute of it.

In 2025, I spent some time evaluating my career and desire for personal growth. I had noticed there was a need for affordable and convenient simple estate planning in South Carolina. There are many people who cannot afford some of the estate planning services already available, and there are also those who cannot physically travel to a lawyer’s office due to health or personal reasons. At my last job, I recall receiving requests from people who needed mobile services due to being on daily dialysis and even because they were awaiting surgery in the hospital. I wanted to see if I could meet that need, and that is how Cardinal Wills was born.

Too many of us put off estate planning for longer than necessary, and I figured that I would make it easy, accessible, and affordable for everyone to get a simple estate plan done. I have unfortunately seen too many circumstances where people never get around to doing it, and it causes issues for family members down the road. I have also seen people who use online/remote services to do it themselves, and unfortunately end up with incomplete or inaccurate plans. I wanted to provide another option for people, if they ever wanted it.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
This is my first time as an entrepreneur and business owner so I took a few months to really understand how to operate a solo legal practice. I was overwhelmed with gratitude at how many attorneys were readily available to guide and mentor me through this process, and it has allowed me to keep learning and growing.

In these last 6 months, I am fortunate enough to have already made an impact in many people’s lives. It seems that the Charleston area was ready to have a mobile estate planning business. I have made some amazing connections with other business owners and professionals, and everyday, I feel supported and encouraged to keep going on and growing my practice. The biggest struggle for me has been achieving a balance with work and networking/marketing, but I have found that with time, it is getting easier to manage. Patience has been my biggest lesson thus far, and I am now embracing the whole journey, and not just the destination.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Cardinal Wills is dedicated to making estate planning both affordable and accessible for individuals and families looking to prepare for the future. I provide convenient, mobile estate planning legal services—including Simple Wills and Powers of Attorney—to clients throughout Charleston, Dorchester, and Berkeley counties in South Carolina. Without a physical office, I go to clients—meeting at a convenient location to help them create a plan that reflects their wishes. As a licensed attorney, I can put all their worries to rest by answering all of their questions and concerns. I am able to do appointments in homes, hospitals, senior centers, churches and more, and all of the drafting and executing happens in one appointment.

I believe everyone should have access to straightforward and affordable estate planning. A solid plan not only protects your legacy but also eases the burden on your loved ones in the event of incapacity or passing.

Estate planning is work worth doing in my opinion, as clients are forced to be vulnerable, face their mortality, and answer some hard questions during the appointment. I strive to earn my clients’ trust by being dependable and patient, and guiding them in making a plan that suits their needs. When people resort to impersonal online services, they do not get to ask their pressing questions or obtain true peace of mind – as a licensed attorney, I am able to be alongside them every step of the way and help them navigate their thoughts.

Another thing that sets me apart from others is my love for public education. My favorite part of the job has actually been hosting Estate Planning 101 seminars all across the Lowcountry to help educate people on their options and empower them to make the right choice for their plans. Sharing information and promoting legal literacy for free is another cornerstone of Cardinal Wills.

I believe it is an act of love for people to plan and get their affairs in order, as it helps take care of their loved ones after they are gone. It is my privilege and honor to be able to walk people through this journey and to experience this act of love with them.

Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
When I conceived of the idea for Cardinal Wills, I took a bold plunge and cold-emailed solo practitioner attorneys to meet with them and pick their brains about their journeys. I was pleasantly surprised that all of them responded positively and met with me to guide me through the process of setting up my own legal practice. My advice to everyone starting out is to ask for help early, instead of diving into the deep end and trying to survive. It has made all the difference in the world that I asked for help at the beginning.
