Today we’d like to introduce you to Tricia Amelung
Hi Tricia, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Trish was a dedicated stay-at-home mom until she made the bold decision to pursue nursing school while her children were in middle school. With the collaboration of her supportive husband, she managed the challenges of raising two teenagers while working full-time. Despite the hurdles, their teamwork enabled her to achieve her goal and graduated as a registered nurse (RN) in 2011.
Trish spent a significant portion of her career in oncology, but her passion for education drove her to earn both a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree, ultimately becoming a Family Nurse Practitioner in 2016. After a brief stint in pediatrics, she transitioned to family practice, where she discovered her true calling.
In 2020-2021, Trish recognized the importance of growth and change in her career. Determined not to remain stagnant for the next 30 years, she took proactive steps to redefine her path. This pivotal moment inspired her to open Lowcountry Family Care, a venture aimed at providing comprehensive healthcare to her community.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Trish faced many challenges throughout her journey. Nursing school was particularly difficult for her, and there were moments filled with tears. However, her family provided the support and encouragement she needed to persevere. Even after graduating and starting her career as a Nurse Practitioner, she found that things were not always easy. Along the way, some people, including friends and those she had helped, tried to discourage her. Despite this, Trish believed that with God by her side, she would not fail. She felt that God placed the right people in her life at just the right moments. Day by day as we grow, while the people around us may change, the unwavering support of her husband, daughter, sister, and a few professional colleagues has been pivotal in helping Trish achieve ongoing success with Lowcountry Family Care.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Lowcountry Family Care is exactly as it sounds, it is centered around family. While we are a small practice that has only been open for about 3 and a half years now, we find ourselves growing rapidly with about 4,500 patients. With that said, we pride ourselves in having our expansion be mostly due to word of mouth. Moreover, what sets us apart is our love for our patients in walking alongside them every step of the way whether it be medically or personally. Most of all, there is something to say about the fact that we are able to see our patients from birth all the way to the end of their lives. We love to know our patients by name when they call or come into the office and build relationships that transcend their health care alone.
Trish not only invests in the healthcare of her patients but also in their personal stories as well. She specializes in people as a whole from hormone replacement therapy and weight loss to thyroid and diabetes management.
What we love most about our practice is our dedication to exceptional care in whatever ways our patients need. Whether it be something as small as answering and returning missed calls, keeping wait times in the office to as minimal as they can be, to as large as sending referrals, refilling medications, and providing imaging results same day.

This approach has led to steady growth, much of which has come through word-of-mouth referrals from our patients who feel valued and heard.
