Exploring Life & Business with Teri Clar of NAFASI Interiors

Today we’d like to introduce you to Teri Clar.

Hi Teri, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
I started NAFASI in 2013. The business has traveled with me wherever I move, so back then I was designing residential homes in the DC area for 4 years. Then we moved to Rwanda in East Africa, and I designed for clients there from 2017-to 2020. The pandemic had us moving back to the US where we decided to flip a home in Des Moines in 2021 until we decided to settle down in Charleston. We are a new business to the area with inspiration from all over. Now that we’re settling in in Charleston, we’re ready to bring interesting new designs to this already-fabulous city!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Moving around so much means we have to reinvent ourselves and our brand with each move. We have to find all new clients and build trust in the community. It also is a great way to meet tons of new people, and experience new styles and designs with each place we travel.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
NAFASI Interiors is a boutique interior design firm specializing in residential interior design. No two clients’ designs will ever look the same, but they will all have bold NAFASI flair! We figure out each client’s style and translate it into a beautiful space that represents them well and efficiently functions how the client needs it to.

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I believe you make your own luck! It’s all about how you handle the tough stuff, and if you can turn it around. When the pandemic hit, it was obviously hard on all of us. However, professionally, I was able to turn our E-Design package into a more profitable additional aspect of the business, working remotely while still internationally designing!
