My name is Sheila Fluker. I’m a business strategist, entrepreneur, and founder of The Balloon Squad and the Minding My Own Damn Business Retreat. But my story didn’t start with business it started with survival. I spent 15 years in the military, and on my final tour in Iraq, I was injured and medically discharged. Instead of transitioning into retirement, I was forced to start over with no clear plan and while battling depression, anxiety, and PTSD. At my lowest point, I found balloons not as a business, but as therapy. What started as healing turned into a hustle. That hustle turned into The Balloon Squad, a company that now serves corporate clients and operates as a structured, revenue-generating business.
And that’s when everything changed. Because I realized there are a lot of talented women building businesses the hard way… with no systems, no strategy, and no support. So I created the Minding My Own Damn Business Retreat to help women stop guessing and start building real, sustainable businesses. Because I know what it feels like to start from nothing… And I know what it takes to build something that actually works.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Not at all. I was medically discharged after 15 years in the military and had to rebuild my life while dealing with depression and anxiety. I found balloons as therapy, and turning that into The Balloon Squad came with a lot of trial and error no money, no systems, just figuring it out. But those challenges are exactly what taught me how to build a real business, not just hustle.

How do you think about happiness?
What makes me happy is transformation but also the life I’ve been able to build because of it.
I love what I do with The Balloon Squad and my retreat, but outside of that, I really enjoy traveling, spa days, and spending time with my family especially my new grandbaby. That’s a different kind of joy for me. For me, it’s about having the freedom to experience life, not just constantly work.
And I think what makes it even more meaningful is that I’ve been in a place where I felt lost. So now, being able to build something that not only changed my life but allows me to create memories, take care of myself, and help other women grow that’s what really makes me happy. Because it’s not just about success it’s about impact and the life you get to live because of it.
