Today we’d like to introduce you to Sharelle McNeil
Hi Sharelle, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I’m a proud native of Awendaw, SC, a small close knit community that holds a special place in my heart. In 2022, I founded Momma’s Care after watching my grandmother, affectionately known as “Momma,” navigate serious health challenges. It was a tough time, but it made me reflect on how I could honor her legacy and find peace if the day came when she was no longer with us.
I grew up in a home filled with love, surrounded by my grandparents, mother, and siblings, I witnessed my grandmother’s unwavering dedication to caring for our family and community—something that had been passed down through generations. Her commitment to nurturing others was deeply woven into our family’s fabric, and it inspired me to build something that would continue her tradition of love and service, not only for our family but for the wider community as well.
Prior to 2022, I was educated in Charleston County schools and I furthered my studies at Benedict College, graduating Cum Laude with a degree in Child and Family Studies in December 2014. My journey has been shaped by personal experiences, academic achievements, over 15 years in childcare and teaching, and active community involvement.
Now, through Momma’s Care, I am nurturing the belief that “it takes a village,” and I am committed to carrying this philosophy forward in everything I do. My pain and purpose are working together to not only bring me peace, but to build Momma’s Care up!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The journey hasn’t been easy, especially with the loss of my beloved grandparents. My grandmother passed away on February 20, 2023, and my grandfather, affectionately known as “Daddy,” passed on August 19, 2020. They were my everything, always so proud of me, and their love and support meant the world. Despite the challenges and heartache, I find strength in my faith, knowing that God has been carrying me through each step of this difficult path.
No matter what, I always push through anything I set my mind to. Serving families and communities helps me overcome the challenges, as it brings me immense joy!
Beyond the emotional struggles, one of the main obstacles I’m currently facing is securing funding to expand the services I offer. However, I firmly believe I’m walking in my God-given purpose. Where He guides, He provides, so I trust that everything will fall into place in time—no worries!
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
When it comes to Momma’s Care, you’ll notice that our brand is centered around sunflowers, a symbol that brings me a deep sense of warmth and comfort. My grandmother loved sunflowers; our home was filled with sunflower decor, and we honored her with sunflowers during her celebration of life. For me, sunflowers also represent my bright spirit, strength, and vision. I’ve fully embraced leadership and I am dedicated to helping our communities grow and flourish, just as sunflowers do, standing tall and reaching for the light.
At Momma’s Care, our mission is to provide safe, nurturing childcare and educational services that support each child’s growth and learning in a loving environment. We empower children and families by offering resources that help them thrive in their daily lives. We take pride in fostering partnerships and engaging in community service that brings people together to achieve shared goals. Through our efforts, we aim to cultivate strong leadership, build character, and create positive change within the community.
We also uphold our core values of faith, love, leadership, community, learning, and integrity, which guide everything we do and ensure that our mission reflects the heart and spirit of our work.
Who else deserves credit in your story?
My man, my man, my man—lol! The love, support, and all those business conversations mean the world to me. My mommy and siblings are always in my corner, supporting me in everything I do. They each show up for me in their own unique ways, and I’m so grateful for that. Then there’s my best friends, the “Fab Five,” who I’ve been connected with my entire life; they stand by me, both personally and in my business ventures. And I can’t forget the 3 amazing women I met after moving to Columbia, who quickly became apart of my village. I consider them my sisters, and they didn’t hesitate to jump on board with Momma’s Care! Last but certainly not least, the children & families that I’ve had the privilege of serving and or being a part of their life. Each experience with them has been incredibly meaningful and has taught and shaped me in ways I can’t fully express.
I honestly could go on and on, but I don’t want to leave anyone out. I am truly blessed to have such an incredible support system—from my family, church, friends, the community, social media, and beyond. The love and encouragement I receive are overwhelming, and I always make it a point to let everyone know how thankful I am for their support. It’s this village that keeps me going, and I’m endlessly grateful for every single one of them!
