Exploring Life & Business with Samuel Johnson of Guardian Appliance Repair

Today we’d like to introduce you to Samuel Johnson.

Samuel, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I began my career in appliance repair in 2013. Early on, I was mentored by a close friend who owned a successful appliance repair company, and that experience gave me a strong foundation in both the technical side of the work and what it takes to run a business.

A few years later, I took a leap and started my own company, Guardian Appliance Repair. I spent seven years serving the southern Denver area, building a loyal customer base and a reputation for dependable, high-quality service.

In 2024, my wife and I made the decision to move to South Carolina with our daughter after falling in love with the Lowcountry. Relocating my business across the country was definitely a risk, but I’ve always believed that growth comes from betting on yourself.

Since the move, I’ve focused on rebuilding and growing in a new community. I joined a BNI group in Summerville to connect with other local professionals and establish strong relationships. Today, I’m proud to serve the tri-county area, with experience across a wide range of appliance brands, including more complex brands such as Samsung and LG.

At the end of the day, I take pride in my work ethic and communication. It’s not just about fixing appliances, it’s about building trust and delivering reliable service every time.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. The biggest challenge was moving my business from Colorado to South Carolina and essentially starting over from scratch. In Colorado, I had already built a strong reputation, so rebuilding that in a new place took time.

Early on, it was all about getting my name out there, making connections, and earning trust one customer at a time. I focused on doing quality work and showing up consistently, and over time, word of mouth started to grow. I’ve been fortunate to have great customers and people along the way who have supported me and helped spread the word about Guardian Appliance Repair.

We’ve been impressed with Guardian Appliance Repair, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Guardian Appliance Repair is a locally owned business serving the tri-county area, focused on diagnosing and repairing a wide range of household appliances from everyday fixes to more complex issues. I work across most major appliance brands, and handle everything from washers and dryers to ovens, refrigerators, and dishwashers.

What sets my business apart is a focus on doing the job right the first time. I take a diagnostic-first approach, which means identifying the root of the issue rather than applying quick fixes. I also prioritize clear, honest communication so customers understand exactly what’s going on with their appliance and what to expect. I’ve built Guardian Appliance Repair to be straightforward, dependable, and solution-focused something people can count on when they need it done right.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
What I like most about South Carolina is the culture. It’s the people, the food, and the strong sense of community. There’s a real emphasis on family, and it’s refreshing to be in a place where manners and hospitality still matter. It just feels welcoming. South Carolina is such a beautiful state with so much to see.

If I had to pick something, I’d say the infrastructure is still catching up with how quickly the area is growing. And I’ll be honest, the Mexican food could use some improvement. But overall, it’s a great place to live, the weather is hard to beat, and I’m really happy to call it home.
