Exploring Life & Business with Priscilla Bloedoorn of Not Your Average Wings

Today we’d like to introduce you to Priscilla Bloedoorn.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My entrepreneurial journey began during a season when I became a stay-at-home mom. While I deeply loved raising my two beautiful children, I found myself missing work and craving a sense of purpose outside of motherhood. I wanted something that allowed me to still be present for my kids while also fulfilling my passion to build and create.

That desire led me to open my first business—a Herbalife nutrition and spin studio centered around moms, children, and community. We offered mommy-and-me classes and community dance workouts that uplifted and empowered women. Moms were able to work out with their children, my kids came to work with me, and I truly felt I had the best of both worlds: being present as a mother while walking in my purpose as a business owner. The studio quickly grew into a thriving space operating six days a week and became a true community hub.

As the business expanded, I realized I needed a venture that could operate more independently and sustainably without requiring my constant physical presence. That realization pushed me into my next chapter—opening a restaurant. What started as a solution to create balance ultimately became a thriving business of its own and marked my transition into the food industry. Today, my journey is rooted in faith, family, and the belief that purpose can evolve—sometimes in ways bigger than you ever imagined.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Absolutely not. The journey has been filled with challenges at every stage. I faced financial strain, long hours, learning entire industries from scratch, and the constant pressure of balancing motherhood, marriage, and entrepreneurship. There were moments of self-doubt, burnout, and times when I had to make difficult decisions with limited resources and little margin for error.

Building businesses while raising young children required immense sacrifice—emotionally, mentally, and physically. I’ve navigated staffing issues, operational setbacks, partnership challenges, and the realities that come with being a woman and a Black entrepreneur in competitive spaces. Nothing was handed to me, and many lessons were learned the hard way.

That said, every obstacle refined me. Each setback forced me to grow, pivot, and lead with more clarity and resilience. The road hasn’t been smooth, but it has been purposeful—and every challenge played a role in shaping the business owner and leader I am today.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I own and operate Not Your Average Wings .

Not Your Average Wings is exactly what the name implies—we’re not your typical wing spot. We specialize in fresh, flavorful wings that are seasoned right, sauced well, and priced with our community in mind. Quality and consistency are non-negotiable for us. From our portions to our house-made flavors, everything is done with intention.

What sets us apart is transparency and authenticity. We don’t overcomplicate the menu or follow gimmicks—we focus on doing wings right. We’re known for bold flavor, fair pricing, and being honest with our customers, whether it’s about specials, availability, or how we operate. Our guests know exactly what they’re getting, and that trust is something we take seriously.

Brand-wise, I’m most proud that Not Your Average Wings was built from the ground up and continues to stand strong in a very competitive market. It represents resilience, adaptability, and community support. We’ve grown through consistency, not shortcuts, and through listening to the people who support us.

I want readers to know that when they walk into Not Your Average Wings, they’re supporting more than a restaurant—they’re supporting a woman-owned, community-driven brand that values quality, honesty, and excellence. Our goal has always been simple: serve great wings, treat people right, and remain true to who we are.

Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
There are many ways people can support and collaborate with us. The simplest and most meaningful way is by supporting the brand—ordering from us, sharing their experience, and spreading the word within the community. Word-of-mouth has played a huge role in our growth.

In recent months, community support has remained a core part of who we are. Not Your Average Wings has proudly partnered with local schools through spirit weeks, fundraisers, and teacher appreciation initiatives. We’ve also supported youth and school sports teams by contributing toward travel expenses and overall team needs.

We believe investing in our children, educators, and local organizations is an investment in the future of the community that supports us. We are always open to collaborating with schools, teams, and community groups on meaningful fundraising opportunities and events. Supporting our brand means supporting a business that is committed to giving back and consistently showing up where it matters most.
