Today we’d like to introduce you to Latonya Jones.
Hi Latonya, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My story started back in 2014 when I was on a quest to discover my life’s purpose. I was working a call center job at the time and although I enjoyed the job, the work environment was toxic and mentally taxing. After a little soul searching and talking things over with a buddy from church, I enrolled back into school to pursue my master’s degree in Human Service. Shortly after graduating, I was laid off from that call center job. Weeks before my unemployment was expected to run out, I was contacted by a company to utilize my new degree as a mental health professional. While working that job I quickly advanced in the role of Day treatment Director where I managed a program that specialized in providing therapeutic services to kids with behavioral problems associated with mental health. What I now know, That job was providing me the necessary experience that I would later utilize to own and operate my case management agency. My experience in human service and mental health also inspired me to become an independent author. I published my 1st book in 2019 where I share my personal story on how I utilize techniques to overcome challenges I experienced during a difficult season in my life.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Reflecting back over my journey, the path was not smooth but I can see where things in my past were strategically orchestrated so that I could be equipped with the resources and knowledge that I have today. My biggest struggle was my faith and learning to manage my anxiety while trusting the process. My problem is, I wanted things to happen on my terms and on my timeline. This applied to career, relationships, and personal goals. Then when I am faced with the resistance of trying to make that thing happen, I become stubbornly determined to accomplish that goal by any means necessary. That caused me to force the delivery of a thing that was not ready to be birthed yet. So I had to learn to trust the process and establish my faith. Allow my creator and the universe to do their job. When the time was right, the task was accomplished without stress or struggle. What I learned about myself is that Some goals are ego-based and some goals are purpose driven. Most ego based goals will cause you to stress and struggle while trying to achieve them. And sometimes you are rewarded with your ego based goal but you may lose what you asked for because you haven’t been equipped with what you need to maintain your desires. But when a goal is aligned with my purpose, I noticed that I was met with less resistance on my path to accomplish that goal. And when I reflect back on the goals that I have accomplished and the things that I asked, I realize that I now have the maturity, the wisdom, and the patience to maintain my desires.

We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
My success is determined by the health and happiness of my children. I am a single mom to two boys. They are 12 years apart. There was never a time that they went without their basic needs and they received a majority of their wants. There were times I worked 2 and 3 jobs, but I attended every sporting event, participated in extracurricular activities, and made arrangements to celebrate their birthdays in a manner that represented their likes and interest. I don’t proclaim to be a perfect parent but I am a parent that is passionate about protecting my children’s mental health, making sure they are treated fairly, and that they lack none of their needs.
