Hi Jessica, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My name is Jessica Williams, and I am a dog breeder and certified dog behavior trainer. I own Trust in the Lord Labradors located in Greenville SC. A buisness that provides high quality English Labrador Retrievers to families looking for their new furever puppy to complete their home!
South Carolina is home to me growing up in Travelers Rest SC! After high school, I attending North Greenville University and working at Travelers Rest Animal Hospital for a few years. I loved growing up here in TR it’s hard to find a cuter more tranquil town that gives you that wonderful southern feel we all love.
I continued to developed my passion, knowledge, and love for all animals over my career. Whether taking dog training classes, working with service animals, learning how to perform CPR on dogs and puppies, and working with police K-9 units I always found a way to be surrounded by animals. I took the skills I learned and used them to develop my own professional Dog Breeding business. I knew if I ever started a business I wanted it to built around a verse in the Bible. Proverbs 3:5-6 “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will make straight your paths.” Trust in the Lord for your next step, for your plans that year, for your clients, for your guidance, for your family, and for your puppies! Trust in the Lord is our reminder to wake up every morning and serve our community with excellence. I met my incredible husband he was a man that loved God and wanted to start a family two things I was looking for in a husband! My husband encouraged me to start my dream business and supported me throughout the entire process. 🐕 I set out on a search across America to find the perfect English Labrador Retrievers with championship bloodlines to start a professional business of breeding excellent quality Labs. After having my own Labs, I knew this was the breed for me and I wanted to share this amazing dog with others. I visited several states throughout the country and breeders before finally deciding on the Sire and Dams I eventually purchased to begin breeding. Temperament was everything to me. I believe in breeding for a calm and relaxed family dog that can play fetch if needed but was also willing to just watch a movie on the couch and cuddle. Labradors are wonderful family dogs because they are so eager to please and learn quickly. They are incredible smart and do very well as service animals assisting those in need. They are loyal and loving in a family and so amazing and patient with children.
All of my dogs are registered with the American Kennel Club and can participate in any shows or competitions they hold. I wanted to have AKC registered purebred English Labrador Retrievers so that they had pedigrees and health requirements by a third party keeping my championship blood lines pure, my litters organized, and provide documentation to all my clientele.
The English Labrador is kind, sweet, gentle, and makes you smile every day! It is an absolute joy to raise and rear these beautiful English Labradors Retrievers. I built it to be professional and personable. Something I could do full time one day while I stayed at home and raised our kids! It wasn’t just a business to me I wanted to impact families lives and give them that perfect companion that completed their home! My husband was in active duty military when we got married. If you are familiar with the military, you know we moved often but it’s was also a life of adventure. Each new home had new memories and great friends. 🇺🇸 I was able to breed and continue my business at each duty station all though not without challenges in all the moving.
After finishing the 6 year pilot contract my husband had he was hired by South Carolina National Guard. This was such a blessing for us as we felt God calling us to move back to Greenville SC permanently. We were both excited to start our family and put some roots down in the place we love to call home South Carolina☀️! God has blessed us with Trust in the Lord Labradors and everyday I am so thankful😊.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The lockdowns of Covid -19 really challenged me. Before that time my business and client interactions had been mainly word of mouth and local events. My clientele was not accessible anymore in person during that unique time. This forced me to put a lot more effort and time into a website and online marketing/advertising. This challenge ended up being a wonderful push that I never knew I needed. Although costly in the beginning getting a professional website launched allowed me to reach families I would have never been able to access which in turn allowed me to expand my business. I learned quickly that in business, I need to be adaptable and willing to change with the times to be successful and effectively continue growing.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Trust in the Lord Labradors provides excellent quality English Labrador Retriever puppies with calm temperaments and adorable personalities!
We are known for staying true to the English characteristics of the Labrador Retriever. We do not mix or breed with any American lines. I only breed English Labrador Retrievers. English Labradors are very different than American Labradors each excel in their own category because of their unique qualities. An English Labrador is often used in show competitions their bodies have a thicker chest, their heads are more ‘blocky’ in nature, their tails are thicker ‘AKA a beaver tail’ , they have shorter legs, overall they are the larger of the two. They are known to be calmer and more suitable as family dogs as they can be easier to train due to their relaxed nature.
The American Labradors are known for being highly energetic and very driven. They make excellent hunting dogs and enjoy having a task. They are thinner and leaner than the English and often are taller. They can be more difficult to train do to their higher drive or more energetic personality. Which make them less sought after by families with young children.
We are unique because we have championships bloodlines in our Sires and Dams. Their pedigrees have many show titles making our puppies highly sought after. These pedigrees and titles also ensure the puppies born are of high quality with few if any known genetic issues. They have clear OFA ratings to ensure we do not breed or carry on any hip or elbow dysplasia.
Our puppies are AKC registered given them pedigrees and paperwork at birth. We offer a health guarantee on our puppies because we stand behind our dogs that we breed. We have paid for the health clearances and genetic tests so that we only breed the best quality. Embark DNA, OFA, and AKC perform these test as third parties keeping my business accountable and these test reliable. We allow visits to our home so that people can meet our dogs and see the temperaments of the parents themselves. Don’t take my word for it come and see and make sure this is the right breed for you.
Many backyard breeders will not offer any of these documents they interbreed and look for a quick way to make money. I always tell my clients you get what you pay for. The puppy may be cheap from these puppy mills but the vet bills you most often get later certainly won’t be.
When our puppies are born they are not just left in a kennel for the 8 weeks until they go home. They are desensitized to all our farm animals including cows, sheep, other dogs, cats, and chickens. We socialize them with our children and make sure they are around common household noises. People enjoy purchasing a puppy from us because we start potty training, kennel training them at an early age. We begin teaching them common commands to include sit, stay, and come. We also begin desensitizing their paws, tails, and ears which can help with ear cleaning and nail trimmings later. Our puppies also come with health paperwork from a third party vet who checks over each pup for any health issues this check up is all documented individually and given to the owners at pick up. Our puppies are microchipped at this vet visit to provide families with the best possible way of getting the dog returned home if they are ever lost.
All of our dogs and puppies are fed a high quality diet and are given vitamin supplements.
What matters most to you?
I throughly desire to provide families with their “furever” friend that completes their home! A quality puppy with an incredible temperament and relaxed demeanor. One of my favorite parts of raising Labs is watching a family come and pick up their puppy. The kids squeal with joy and the puppy is just as happy to meet its new family with tiny kisses and a wiggling tail. It is so fulfilling and humbling when a family chooses one of our babies to be theirs! My husband and I pray over each puppy that God would bless that family as it raises that sweet pup. We know our Labs change lives forever with LOVE in the best way that only a labrador retriever can! 🖤💛🤎
One story I will never forget was a mom reaching out telling me after purchasing one of our puppies that she had a child who had seizures. She had sent the pup to a specific training where it learned to assist during these seizures. The dog would then alert the mom or child of an imminent seizure allowing for them to react and comfort her child during that time. I was overjoyed and definitely felt that proud mom moment to know my babies are in our local community change lives and helping others. I flashed back to the dream I had when I started Trust in the Lord Labradors and realized it had come true. That was such an incredibly humbling moment God had allowed me to build something with impact.
