Today we’d like to introduce you to Heaven Powell
Hi Heaven, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Cookie Heaven was born out of lots of pushing from my family and friends to share these delicious treats with others. I started making the Russells (our chocolate chip cookie) 9 years ago, after my husband and I got married. I was determined to perfect the chocolate chip cookie, and it was no easy feat. After much trial and error, I finally crafted a recipe I could hang my hat on. That cookie quickly became the dessert we took to every function we went to and, as a result, people fell in love with them. For years that’s all it was, just a tasty treat that turned into our price of admission at all of our family and friends’ events.
As time went on a few of our family members and close friends began suggesting we sell the cookies. Which I honestly took in jest. Until my father-in-law, subtly (or not so subtly) challenged me to turn this hobby into a business.
Thus, Cookie Heaven was born. Or at least the idea of it. I knew I needed more than just a chocolate chip cookie to work with. So I got to working on some other cookies that I felt would knock people’s socks off and reach cookie lovers all across the spectrum of cookie flavors. As a result of lots of experimenting in the kitchen I arrived at our signature six, consisting of the Russell, Freda Mae, Geraldine, Ruthie Pie, Bobo and Silly Willy. These cookies are the foundation of Cookie Heaven. In addition to our signature six, I aim to release at least one new cookie every month in hopes of keeping my creative juices flowing and to keep people coming back for more.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Truthfully, our road has been short as we just started in November 2024. However, even in that short time I have certainly learned plenty of lessons with respect to the business side of things and the world of top notch cookie delivery. From what type of packaging works best for bulk cookies or individually wrapped cookies to how in the world to file sales taxes. Woof. Additionally, there are always the bumps in the road that simply occur during the baking process. For instance, I have forgotten a whole pan of cookies in the oven, sufficiently burning them to a crisp. I have also dropped a dozen freshly baked cookies onto the floor. Tears were shed. Thankfully, I have learned to double and triple check my ovens, in addition, to setting multiple timers, as well as, to slow down and take my time when moving cookie trays from one location to the next. This whole endeavor has certainly been a learning process and I am sure it will continue to be.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We specialize in fresh baked gourmet cookies. When someone places an order, I reach out to them to coordinate delivery then the day of delivery I bake the cookies fresh and then get them in their hands within the selected timeframe. Fresh cookies are the best cookies. We are known for our tastebud pleasing, mouthwateringly delicious cookies. No corners are cut when it comes to packing our cookies full of flavor. We aim to make everything in house from the candied pecans in the Geraldine to the frosting on the Ruthie pie, if we can do it we make it from scratch and if we can’t, we will learn. Presentation is also big in my book. I love putting time and effort into the presentation. Not just of the cookies themselves, but also the packaging and the branding. I have so enjoyed the creative behind the scenes process of building my company logo from scratch, crafting the necessary labeling, choosing the right box and finishing touches to the packaging to ensure that the finished product is one I can be proud of.
I want your readers to know that we are a small, locally owned business by a Beaufort native who is striving to deliver a product that can’t be whipped up in your home kitchen. Cookies that make you want to dance, pick up the phone and call everyone you know and cause you to have to pick your jaw up off the floor after just one bite. But not just only that we want to be a company that brings joy to our community in more than just a cookie box. Ultimately, we strive to be a company that, by way of a cookie, can give back to the community that gives so much to us.
We offer a variety of cookies in a variety of quantities. We do have a website, however, because we are a small business our website is equally as small. Meaning, we can do more than our website portrays. We are capable of making cookies for weddings (with place cards for descriptions), individually packing cookies for gifts, adding a special tag on your box of cookies if you’re sending them as a gift. All of which we have done thus far. We absolutely encourage reaching out via email, website (contact us section) or social media to inquire about the endless cookie possibilities.
