Exploring Life & Business with Drew Brashier of Paw And Order Dog Training

Today we’d like to introduce you to Drew Brashier.

Drew, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I was born and raised in the upstate. I’m one of the few people I’ve ever known who was actually born in Simpsonville. Although I’ve traveled all over the world, this is home. I think being a part of this area in this community is a big part of who I am. Growing up, I didn’t always live in the best area and wasn’t always proud of where I lived, but I had great parents who did the best they could and always pushed me to give my best. I think the combination of that encouragement, as well as just the drive to be somewhere different has helped to propel me to the success and life that I’ve been fortunate to build no matter what I’ve done professionally I will always consider my incredible wife and my kids to be my greatest accomplishments. I was the first man in my family to attend and graduate college from there I went directly into law-enforcement and with in a few years, earned a masters degree and began teaching criminal justice. I truly thought that this is where I would spend the remainder of my professional life years later I had opportunities to venture out and try other avenues and industries some were more successful than others almost 5 years ago. I stumbled upon Paw & Order dog training and suddenly everything clicked, and I realized exactly where I was supposed to be it all started with a dog, a challenging puppy like wine that I had never had plus an innocent comment from my youngest son(he was about 5 at the time) stating that he didn’t want to go to college he just wanted to train dogs. That completely innocent statement combined with the love for working with my own dog, as well as knowing that I was not meant to work for someone else launched into what has turned out to be the best professional decision that I’ve ever made. But at the end of the day, I’m the average family man just trying to make the best of every day and be a good example. Who I am is not based on the business that I’ve built. The business that I’ve built is a byproduct of the person I am.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Over the years, the road has been extremely rough at times. Anyone who has ever taken the leap into running their own business will know that it can be the most fulfilling yet most terrifying decision you’ll ever make there have been and probably will continue to be times that I have wondered what I have gotten myself into. Stressing over the bills, arguing over responsibilities at home, long hours, sleepless nights, and from time to time, a little bit of imposter syndrome, all create stumbling blocks along the way. But pushing through provides even greater reward freedom to spend more time with family opportunities to take train vacations, sponsoring the local athletics team connecting with the local dog rescue improving the life of not only your own family, but families all over the community make all the challenges worthwhile

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I specialize in the family dog. On the surface, I’m a dog trainer, but in reality, I’m a relationship builder and home improvement specialist. My goal with every family and dog is to enhance the way you live together. Whether you aim to create a more enjoyable home environment, provide therapy in hospitals, or embark on life-changing adventures, I strive to help you and your dog lead fulfilling lives together.

I have the privilege of being the coach and mentor who has guided hundreds of dogs and families to become their happiest selves. I love how dogs bring people together, sparking great conversations with complete strangers simply because of our shared love for them.

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
Get involved in the community. Get to know other business owners around you. Don’t just look at those within your industry. Try to learn from anyone who is doing well. Don’t just be in the community. Be a part of the community. It’s not just about who you know, but who knows you. I found quite a bit of success in networking in relationship building through my local Chamber of Commerce. I’ve had the opportunity to meet a lot of like-minded individuals who also want to see you succeed. Don’t always focus on how a certain relationship might benefit you but look at how you can benefit others sometimes choosing not to do for self will actually bring you more success. Especially when you aren’t just doing it with your success in mind. None of us are truly self-made. We all have help at some point along the way, so it’s important to find those who are moving in the same direction that you are.
