Hi Daysia, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
From a young age, I’ve always had a passion for cooking and baking, inspired by the time I spent in the kitchen with my mother and grandmothers. Their talent for creating some of my favorite recipes left a lasting impression on me and fueled my desire to one day make my own mark in the culinary world.

In February 2023, I officially started my home bakery journey. It all began with a small cake decorating kit gifted by my mom after I shared my vision of making sweet treats from scratch. Those early days were filled with trial and error, but I embraced the process wholeheartedly. I even brought cakes and desserts to my coworkers at the middle school where I work full-time as a Spanish teacher, seeking their honest feedback to refine my skills.

A turning point came in April 2023, when Megan Pinckney Rutherford trusted me to create a vintage-style cake for her collaboration with her MUMU collection. She featured my work on her blog, which opened new doors and introduced me to a broader audience. This led to exciting opportunities, including having my own vendor table at the Bridal Wars event in Blythewood, South Carolina, in May 2023.

Throughout 2023, I was blessed to create desserts for countless special occasions, from birthdays and anniversaries to a Thanksgiving holiday special. My first wedding cake commission in May 2024 was a milestone moment, and earlier that year, I had the honor of crafting a cake for my best friend’s engagement party. Her parents even joked that if I weren’t in the wedding party, they’d have asked me to make the wedding cake! Another highlight was in January 2024, when I was asked to create buttercream frosted sugar cookies and vanilla cupcakes for the prestigious Pink Ice Gala hosted by Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., where Jill Biden was in attendance.

What started as a small venture fueled by passion and a cake kit has grown into a fulfilling journey of sweet creations, bringing joy to every celebration I’m a part of. I’m excited to see where this path continues to take me!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It hasn’t been a completely smooth road, but every challenge has taught me something valuable. One of the biggest struggles has been marketing my business and staying consistent with posting on my business Instagram. As a full-time Spanish teacher, my days are already packed, and finding time to create and share content consistently can feel overwhelming. Social media is such an important tool for reaching new clients and building a community, but balancing that with running a home bakery and managing my teaching responsibilities has been a challenge.

This year, one of my top goals is to improve my consistency with posting and marketing. I’m working on building a content calendar to stay organized, batching my content creation during my free time, and sharing more behind-the-scenes moments to keep my audience engaged. I’m also focusing on creating more engaging posts, like reels and stories, to showcase my work in creative ways. While it’s not always easy, I’m committed to growing my presence and connecting with more people who love sweet treats as much as I do!

We’ve been impressed with DaysiaVuCakes , but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My home bakery business, which I started in February 2023, is built on a deep passion for creating sweet treats from scratch. I specialize in custom cakes, cupcakes, cookies, and other desserts for all types of special occasions, including weddings, birthdays, anniversaries, and corporate events. I take pride in offering personalized designs and flavors, ensuring that each creation not only looks beautiful but tastes incredible too.

What sets my business apart is the care and creativity I pour into every order. From vintage-style cakes to intricate buttercream designs, I aim to create desserts that are as unique as the events they’re celebrating. I’ve been honored to work on some exciting projects, including crafting desserts for high-profile events like the Pink Ice Gala hosted by Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., where Jill Biden was in attendance.

Brand-wise, I’m most proud of the trust my clients place in me to bring their visions to life. Whether it’s a wedding cake or a simple cupcake order, the joy my desserts bring to people is what motivates me. I also strive to offer a personal touch, working closely with clients to ensure their desserts reflect their personalities and the spirit of their celebrations.

What does success mean to you?
Success, to me, is about more than accolades or financial gain—it’s about living in alignment with my passion and purpose. It’s the joy of seeing someone’s face light up when they see their dream cake brought to life or hearing that my desserts made their celebration even more special. Success is found in the trust and connections I build with clients, the lessons learned through challenges, and the growth that comes from pushing myself to be better each day.

On a deeper level, success is about creating a legacy of love and dedication in everything I do. It’s about leaving a lasting impression, whether through a beautifully crafted dessert, an inspiring story, or the courage to pursue my dreams despite obstacles. If my work can bring happiness, inspire others, and reflect the care I put into it, then I consider that the truest measure of success.
