Today we’d like to introduce you to Dave Berlier.
Dave, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started working in the pool industry in 2001. When we were living in California, we opened our first pool business out of our tiny home in the East Bay and built it from there.
Eventually, we decided to sell the business and move to the East Coast to be closer to family. We settled just outside of Columbia, South Carolina, and started over with All Season Pools.
Since then, we’ve just kept building. The business has grown through word of mouth, repeat customers, and a lot of hard work, and we’ve been able to expand our services and our team along the way.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Starting over in South Carolina meant building a customer base from scratch again, and there have been plenty of growing pains along the way. Finding good employees and building a reliable team has probably been one of the biggest challenges, especially as we’ve grown and tried to make sure the quality of our work and customer service grows with us.
We’ve also had to navigate COVID, rising costs, and all of the economic shifts that have affected small businesses over the last several years. There have definitely been times when things were financially tight or when we had to change the way we were doing things.
I think most of running a business has been learning as we go. Some years have been easier than others, but every challenge has forced us to get better at what we do and figure out what kind of company we want All Season Pools to be.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
All Season Pools is a full-service pool company serving the Columbia area. We handle regular pool maintenance, repairs, equipment replacement and upgrades, cleanups, troubleshooting, and larger projects as well.
One thing that has always been important to us is actually understanding how pools and their equipment work, not just keeping the water looking good. Dave has been in the industry since 2001, and over the years we’ve put a lot of emphasis on diagnostics, problem solving, and continuing education. We want to be able to figure out why something isn’t working instead of immediately telling a customer they need to replace it.
I think what sets us apart most is that we’ve stayed very hands-on even as the company has grown. We know our customers, we know their pools, and we try to be straightforward about what they actually need. We’re not interested in selling someone something just because we can.
What I’m probably most proud of is how much the business has grown while still feeling like ours. We started small, built our customer base mostly through reputation and referrals, and have been able to grow into a company with a team that can handle everything from routine service to much more complicated pool problems.
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
I was definitely a wild one growing up. I was always out doing something and have always been the type of person who wants to know how things work.
That curiosity has really carried over into my work. I love troubleshooting, problem solving, and especially figuring out how to repair something that someone else might have given up on. I’ve never been someone who is satisfied with “it’s broken” as the answer. I wants to know why it’s broken and whether I can fix it.
