Today we’d like to introduce you to Cicily Shaull.
Hi Cicily, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Transitioning from a 21-year career of service in the United States Army to real estate wasn’t just a career change for me—it was a continuation of a mission. After retiring from the military, I brought the same values that defined my time in uniform to the Pee Dee Region Community: a relentless commitment to hard work and the consistency required to see every job through to the finish line.
My approach to real estate is simple: people over property. I’ve always believed that if I focused entirely on serving the heroes in my community, the business would naturally follow. This philosophy led me to become a dedicated Homes for Heroes Affiliate. It is an immense honor to provide excellent resources and specialized support to the men and women who serve our country and our local communities every day.
Whether I’m helping a fellow veteran or assisting a first-time buyer in finding their perfect home, I treat every client with the discipline and integrity they deserve. To me, being a Realtor isn’t just about closing deals; it’s about building a stronger community, one neighbor at a time.
I’m here to serve those who serve, and I look forward to helping you find your way home.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Starting a career in real estate in Florence, South Carolina, was far from easy. While Florence is a wonderful, close-knit community where residents truly look out for one another, moving here from another state felt like a significant hurdle to clear. Breaking into a market where relationships often span generations requires more than just a license; it requires earning deep-rooted trust. However, by remaining consistent and strictly adhering to my business plan, I was able to bridge that gap. Staying disciplined and showing up every day allowed me to demonstrate my commitment to this community, eventually turning those initial challenges into a solid foundation for lasting professional relationships.
As you know, we’re big fans of Coldwell Banker McMillan And Associates / Homes for Heroes. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
As a Realtor with Coldwell Banker McMillan and Associates and a proud Homes for Heroes affiliate, I focus on turning the dream of homeownership into a reality for the people who make our community a better place. Based here in the Florence and Pee Dee region, my business is built on a foundation of service, whether I’m helping a first-time buyer navigate the market or assisting a fellow veteran in finding their forever home.
Tell us more about your business. What should we know?
My business is centered on the idea that real estate is about more than just a transaction; it is about lifestyle and legacy. Working under the banner of Coldwell Banker McMillan and Associates allows me to provide my clients with global reach and industry-leading marketing tools, while maintaining the personal, “boots-on-the-ground” service of a local expert. As a Homes for Heroes affiliate, I have a specialized mission: to provide extraordinary savings and support to those who serve our country and our local community every day.
What do you do, and what do you specialize in?
I specialize in residential real estate across South Carolina, with a deep focus on military relocation and “Hero” clients—including law enforcement, firefighters, healthcare professionals, and teachers. I am known for my high-energy marketing and social media presence, ensuring my listings get maximum exposure. Beyond the paperwork, I specialize in the “human” side of the move—understanding the unique stresses of relocation and providing a disciplined, organized path to the closing table.
What sets you apart from others?
What sets me apart is a background rooted in service and discipline. Having served in the U.S. Army, I approach every deal with the same level of integrity, attention to detail, and “mission-first” mentality I learned in uniform. I don’t just show houses; I advocate for my clients.
Furthermore, I am deeply embedded in the Florence community—from serving on the board of the Forest Lake Shores HOA to being active with the VFW and hopefully becoming the first female Commander at VFW Post 3181 in June. I’m not just a realtor who works here; I’m a neighbor who is personally invested in the growth and well-being of our neighborhoods.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
Starting out in a professional field like real estate requires a mix of grit, strategy, and a thick skin. Looking back, there are definitely things that seem much clearer now than they did on day one.
Here is some foundational advice for anyone beginning their journey:
Core Principles for New Professionals
Know Your Why: This is your anchor. There will be days when the paperwork is piling up, a deal falls through, or you’re exhausted from networking. If your “why” is just about a paycheck, you might burn out. If your “why” is about serving your community, helping families find their forever homes, or honoring your background in service, you’ll have the fuel to keep going during the lean months.
Know Your Numbers: Business isn’t just about the “hustle”; it’s about the math. You need to understand your overhead, your conversion rates, and your local market data inside and out. Being able to cite current market trends or explain the financial breakdown of a contract off the top of your head builds immediate trust with clients.
Stay Consistent: Success doesn’t usually come from one massive win; it comes from the tedious stuff you do every single day. Whether it’s posting on social media, following up with leads, or attending community events, you have to show up. Consistency is what turns a “job” into a “brand.”
Stick to Business Plan: It is very easy to get distracted by “shiny object syndrome”—the latest expensive lead-gen software or a trendy marketing gimmick. Create a solid plan at the start of the year that outlines your goals and the specific actions needed to reach them. Stick to your business plan even when progress feels slow. Trust the process you built.
