Today we’d like to introduce you to Carolina Hills Sandwich & Sweet Shoppe.
We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My wife and I own a boutique in downtown North Augusta as well. We have been running that for about six years. For five of those years, we have been wanting someone to open a sandwich shop so we would have somewhere to get lunch. After asking many people to do it, no one would. So here we are
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Considering I have never worked in the restaurant business, it’s been quite smooth. Lost of things to learn, but with a willingness, it’s doable.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We started by putting together a menu of sandwiches we felt would be most wanted. We added a couple that we heard from others that aren’t necessarily our thing but after lots of people ask for a Reuben sandwich, you say yes and learn how to make it. And funny enough that’s what I’ve become most proud of. I went out and tried a couple and worked on the things I thought could make it better to me. So far people seem to love it. On thing that I think sets us apart a little is simplicity. We only have about 15 sandwiches and we make them the best we can. We don’t have so many that it’s hard to keep the quality up.
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
Fear not. That would be my advice. Use wisdom, but fear keeps us from taking steps. Take the step and if you fall get back up and don’t make that mistake again. If you never fail you aren’t trying hard enough.
