Hi Caleen, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
BeBetter Health & Performance is owned by a resident of the community within Columbia, SC. Dr. Caleen Hawkins is a Columbia/Blythewood Native who grew up as a small town student-athlete that became a collegiate champion and leader. After obtaining a Biology degree from Claflin University she began her pursuit in her career as a Physical Therapist while coaching competitive travel Volleyball. Dr.C obtained her doctorate degree in Physical Therapy and then went on to learn from Outpatient Orthopedic specialist and Renowned Coaches within the field of performance. After obtaining several years of experience within the field of rehabilitation and performance Dr.C noticed a gap in healthcare. Our traditional healthcare system is heavily focused on treating injuries after they happen, taking medication for medical problems that are already diagnosed with a very “second hand thought” approach to our overall well-being. The opioid epidemic is real, healthcare management costs are through the roof, chronic conditions continue to be of major concern and mental health issues continue to be on the rise. With all of these facts as a society we continue to put out the fires after they occur: we wait until we have pain to prevent surgery and we get diagnosed before fighting disease.
BeBetter Health & Performance is a health and wellness agency designed to help people achieve the best versions of themselves through a personalized model of non-traditional healthcare. The mission is to help people of all ages through health-coaching combined with physical recovery sessions that help people maximizing their health and athletic performance. In other words; we want to create programs for people to be their healthiest, prevent and treat injuries, improve disease, reduce pharmaceutical over-usage and promote maximized performance in daily life. The model of Be+Better emphasizes the need to truly evaluate your physical and mental well-being and then provide holistic medicine approaches to live better and reach your goals.

NO! There have been many struggles along the way of attempting to establish a business. The list includes but is not limited to funding issues, marketing competition, price pressure, insurance compliance/reimbursement, limited resources and simply being able to show the value to your customers. We are in a light switch society; people want solutions to problems immediately. Creating a structure of holistic wellness that focuses on recovery and a journey of decisions that lead to the best version of oneself is challenging when people prefer to take the easy way out.
