Exploring Life & Business with Allison Converse of Calm Cottage Coaching

Today we’d like to introduce you to Allison Converse

Hi Allison, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Allison began her career as an Occupational Therapist (OT) over a decade ago and always had a passion for helping others achieve their goals and discover positive results. She always loved to organize since she was little and the more she learned about living with less, the more interested she was in decluttering her own life.

She began her decluttering journey in 2019 with the ultimate decision to downsize her home to half the square footage and get rid of half of her family’s belongings at the end of 2021. Allison also left her job as an OT at this time to pursue starting her own business.

She saw the benefits of living with less including decreased anxiety & overstimulation, less clean up, and more time. Allison wanted to help others experience these benefits too, so she created & launched Calm Cottage Coaching in May of 2022.

Since starting Calm Cottage Coaching, Allison now serves moms with ADHD struggling in their homes with clutter, disorganization, dysfunction, time management, and task paralysis.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I have definitely pivoted multiple times in the past two years of my business. My first idea was to become a professional organizer that goes into people’s homes, which I discovered wasn’t feasible for my life. My kids were in preschool at the time and I didn’t have the time commitment to drive all over town organizing people’s homes. I decided to create a way to help moms virtually and it actually works!

I joined a group life coaching program and learned that I could approach decluttering and organization from a coaching perspective, which completely evolved the programs I offered.

In the beginning stages of my business, there was a lot of trial and error of program details that worked and didn’t, who I wanted to help, cost of my programs, and general explanation of what I do.

I believe “failing” is a part of running a business. You have to fail to discover success.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?

We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
As a business owner, it’s inevitable that you will have to take risks. Every decision you make can be considered a “risk”. You don’t know if something will work until you try. For example, deciding on a price of a program can be “risky” because you don’t know who will resonate and want to buy until you put it out there.

Investing in your business whether hiring social media assistance, hiring a coach, or even childcare are all big decisions that may need to be considered. I have invested in coaches that are a high investment at the time, however, it’s worth the money because of all that I learn and put into action.
