Exploring Life & Business with Alex Kowaleski of Spilled Milk Cake Boutique

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alex Kowaleski

Hi Alex, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I was born and raised in a small town in Pennsylvania. I grew up in the kitchen, and got my first job in a bakery while I was in high school. Right after I turned 21 I moved to Charleston, sc and started as a line cook at Wild Dunes Resort. I had always loved making desserts; I loved that bread was the start to every meal and something sweet is the way to end it so I got to be a part of both. After working in various pastry kitchens and bakeries, I turned to front of house for a while to learn a whole different aspect of the restaurant industry. I started Spilled Milk Cake Boutique in January of 2024.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I have had a lot of love and support over the years which made my journey pretty smooth. Working full time and starting a business while having 2 dogs has been the hardest challenges ive had.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Spilled Milk Cake Boutique is a Charleston based cake company. I specialize in wedding and birthday cakes. I keep my designs simple and modern. I use local, upscale ingredients to create each cake to order. Customers can customize their cakes down to the sprinkles if they choose. I strive to create a personal and fun experience for each customers ordering process. Spilled Milk uses their own house made extracts which is something not a lot of others do.

What matters most to you?
I want to create a unique experience for any and all cakes. From the ordering process, to the design, to the delivery.
