Exploring Life & Business with Adrianne Watkins of Lowcountry Showers

Today we’d like to introduce you to Adrianne Watkins

Hi Adrianne, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
In 2011 I was looking for a unique centerpiece for my baby shower and I discovered diaper cakes. I just loved it and went on this deep dive learning how to create them. Shortly after I found out I had a miscarriage. It devastated me, but what got me through was diaper cakes. I threw myself into learning all I could about creating them, experimenting with different styles and soon discovered I could do the same with towels and other items. I decided that I could do these items for others…Baby Showers, Bridal Showers, House Warmings and more; hence the name Lowcountry Showers. I did a few for family and friends and word of mouth went from there.

I was introduced to the Cricut machine by a coworker and soon discovered vinyl work. I thought it would be a great addition to my products to offer for these special occasions. I soon added glittered wine glasses, tumblers and t-shirts to my products. I got away from diaper cakes as it was a bit expensive to ship and I didn’t want to be limited to just the Charleston area. I will still create them by request for locals.

I still continue to work on my craft. I love learning new techniques and exploring with new mediums. I don’t think there’s a limit when creating.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. I got married and had my first child a year after starting this venture. My son was born at 25 weeks so trying to get things going while planning a wedding then having a preemie was a bit stressful. Trying to find the balance of working full time, being a mom, and a wife has been difficult. Sometimes I nail it and sometimes I still struggle with it. I now have 3 kiddos, 11, 5, and 2 so the juggling is more of a challenge. Thankfully my two older ones are just as crafty as I am and sometimes help me.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My business is Lowcountry Showers out of Ladson, SC. I am a personalized gift shop. I offer ready made tumblers, wine/shot glasses, t-shirts and more. I also offer custom and personalization of the same items. I think I am most known for my glittered wine glasses, specifically my Pretty in Pearls collection or my Leopard Print Wine/Shot Glass Set.

I think there are a few things that set me apart from others. I think my love and passion for what I do shows through my creations. I am very knowledgeable about my products and my process. I try to educate each customer on the best way to make their products last and keep them as beautiful as the day they receive them and they truly appreciate that.

I am most proud of the joy I bring to customers when they receive their creations. I just love meeting new people and love when given the opportunity to make someone’s vision come to light. It’s one of the most rewarding feelings and I never get tired of it.

Though we do not have a physical location (yet!), we can be found online via our website (www.lowcountryshowers.com) or via Etsy (https://lowcountryshowers.etsy.com). We offer an array of products perfect for any occasion. Check us out if you want to make a statement and gift with style 🙂

Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
I love taking risks. I think the most beautiful creations come from taking risks or stepping outside of your comfort zone. I don’t think I’ve taken any major risks, but creating a new product is always a risk as you never know for sure if your customers are going to like it or not.
