Daily Inspiration: Meet Tierra Ravenell

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tierra Ravenell.

Hi Tierra, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
When the pandemic hit, the world seemingly paused overnight. Like so many others, I watched people around me face layoffs and job loss. The sudden fragility of traditional employment was eye-opening. I realized I didn’t want my financial security left in someone else’s hands—I wanted to build something I could control, nurture, and sustain, no matter what was happening in the world.
That spark led me to esthetics and waxing. At the time, I was completely new to the craft. Taking that leap into an unfamiliar industry in the middle of a global crisis was terrifying, but the desire for self-reliance outweighed the fear.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The road wasn’t easy. Starting a beauty business is an expensive endeavor, especially during economic instability. To make my dream a reality, I worked my day job while saving every extra dollar to fund the startup costs. Balancing a full-time job while trying to lay the foundation for a brand meant long days and zero downtime, but I stayed focused on the bigger picture.

The true test of faith came when it was time to step away from the safety net of my job. Leaving steady employment to dive full-time into building a business from scratch took every ounce of courage I had. But taking that risk forced me to go all-in.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I specialize in precision body waxing with an emphasis on skin health, speed, and client comfort. I would say I’m known for giving the best Brazilian waxes which is why I’m called “The Wax Whisper”

What I would say I’m most proud of is thriving in a competitive industry for seven years and retaining a loyal core client base that has supported you since day one.

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
Don’t Wait for the “Perfect” Time To Start Business — Use Your Fear as Fuel. It’s self explanatory some people let the fear of starting a business mess them up from even beginning.

Also, Fund Your Dream Responsibly (Keep the Day Job Until It’s Time). Don’t let anyone make you feel bad for having a 9 to 5 as a “business owner”. You are working towards a goal.

One thing I wish I knew when I was starting out was you really wear every hat in your business. So just pace yourself, TIME MANAGEMENT! Don’t burn yourself out. I did that in the beginning and it only hurt me until I realized something had to change.
