Today we’d like to introduce you to Ta’kiya Mitchell

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My story began with a passion for art and a desire to make a difference in the world through creative expression. From a young age, I found solace in drawing and design, using my talent to communicate messages that resonated with others. As I navigated through educational institutions, I encountered challenges and biases that sought to limit my potential. However, with unwavering determination and perseverance, I defied the odds and pursued my dreams.

In the dynamic field of graphic design, I honed my skills through formal education and practical experience. I embraced opportunities to collaborate with diverse teams, infusing my unique perspective as a black woman into every project. Through innovation and a commitment to excellence, I established a reputation for delivering compelling visual narratives that left a lasting impact on audiences.

Simultaneously, my journey in the dental field unfolded, driven by a desire to contribute to the health and well-being of others. Despite facing systemic barriers and stereotypes, I immersed myself in rigorous training and continuous learning. I embraced the intersection of art and science in dentistry, leveraging my creativity to enhance patient experiences and promote oral health awareness within underserved communities.

Today, I stand at the intersection of graphic design and dentistry, embodying resilience, authenticity, and empowerment. My story serves as a testament to the transformative power of embracing one’s identity and talents, breaking barriers, and inspiring future generations to pursue their passions without compromise. As a black woman in both fields, I continue to challenge norms, redefine standards of excellence, and illuminate the beauty of diversity in all its forms.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Navigating a career in both graphic design and the dental field at the age of 22 presents a unique set of challenges. While pursuing dual careers can offer diverse opportunities for growth and fulfillment, it is seldom a smooth road. The struggles along the way may include time management issues, juggling responsibilities, facing burnout, and overcoming societal expectations.

One of the key challenges faced by individuals juggling two careers is time management. Balancing the demands of both graphic design and dentistry requires meticulous planning and organization to ensure tasks are completed effectively and efficiently. Without proper time management skills, one may struggle to meet deadlines, deliver quality work, and maintain a work-life balance.

Another common struggle is the challenge of juggling responsibilities in two demanding fields. Engaging in graphic design projects while also attending to patients in the dental field can be mentally and physically taxing. It requires a high level of adaptability, multitasking abilities, and resilience to excel in both areas without compromising quality.

Furthermore, individuals pursuing dual careers may also experience burnout due to the intense workload and pressure to perform well in both fields. The constant switch between creative tasks in graphic design and technical duties in dentistry can take a toll on one’s mental and emotional well-being, leading to exhaustion and decreased productivity.

Moreover, societal expectations and stereotypes can add an extra layer of struggle for young professionals like a 22-year-old woman balancing careers in graphic design and dentistry. Breaking through gender norms, proving one’s capabilities in male-dominated industries, and combating age-related biases can be emotional hurdles that require determination and confidence to overcome.

In conclusion, while the journey of navigating dual careers in graphic design and the dental field at a young age can be gratifying and enriching, it is rarely without its challenges. By developing strong time management skills, honing multitasking abilities, prioritizing self-care to prevent burnout, and challenging societal expectations, individuals can navigate these struggles and emerge as resilient, successful professionals in both fields.
