Daily Inspiration: Meet Nicole Fehr

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicole Fehr.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I have always loved capturing moments with loved ones. I wasn’t happy with my job at the time and it was a huge leap of faith and one night watching tv, I thought, “Why keep waiting? Why not me?” So I started my business a week later with zero business knowledge or a clue of how to entirely work a REAL camera! So I dove in head first and learned everything I could. I offered free sessions to start spreading the word and getting real life experience. I picked up on it fast & never looked back. Fast forward to today, I have worked really hard to make sure I have a top notch client experience, that I am proud of my images I deliver and this year especially, I felt confidently comfortable to have fun and get more creative. I was taught early on certain parameters and was so scared to step outside of those guidelines until this year. Posing people is not always easy! Not everyone is a natural in front of the camera. It takes a lot of personality to warm someone up and make them feel comfortable and that is one thing I excel at. I want everyone to feel confident and have fun! I am so happy I took that first brave step. 8 years later and I still love what I do & I owe it to my clients.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Yes and no. I have some things down to a science and it’s come naturally. Other things, super hard! Comparison for one thing. I had to stop following a lot of photographers. I would discount my work etc and that wasn’t kind of myself honestly. I know we all do it but we all have a lot to offer! Financial was a struggle for some time. I couldn’t afford all the gear for everything I wanted to do but I know it comes with time and it made buying a new lens or flash, that much more rewarding. Education is an amazing investment. Costly but also pays off and I am thankful for all my mentors that have been along side me these last 8 years.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a family & wedding photographer in Charleston,SC. I am most proud of how far my work has come. It took a bit for me to figure out my style but I love where it is now. What sets me apart, I’d say is my client experience. Clients always say ” wow that was a fast response” and I am super big on clear communication and expectations. Along with how comfortable I make others feel. If you are a client of mine, you will quickly see how excited I get about every single session. It’s like a challenge to me. Like, how creative can I get and how much fun can we have!

What are your plans for the future?
I am happy where Nicole Fehr Photography is at the moment. I do want to go back to doing this Full Full time. I do it full time now along side another full time job. So just working my dream would be great! One day!
