Daily Inspiration: Meet Nathaniel Parker

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nathaniel Parker.

Nathaniel Parker

Hi Nathaniel, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, let’s briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
Nate’s BBQ was founded in South Carolina in a small town outside Orangeburg called Cope, SC. The passion for BBQ is a long history of flavor and a taste that will awaken your taste buds. Nate barbecue sauce has been a family-kept recipe for over 15 years, with much of Carolina’s inspiration from a mustard base sauce. Nate (founder) sends a special dedication to his late brother Billy Parker. William Parker Senior took the time to show us both the value of barbecue sauce. These two great men taught me how to make this extraordinary barbecue sauce 15 years ago. It’s just a taste that one can’t get over. After years of making and using our sauce at family events, I decided to take this barbecue sauce to the next level. My goal is to spread the love of Nate’s barbecue sauce to as many people as possible. It’s the sauce with the “Special Forces.”

Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned? Looking back, has it been easy or smooth in retrospect?
One of the struggles faced in the beginning was finances. How will I finance my barbecue sauce? While working, I gave up my job and pursued making barbecue sauce full-time. I use my finances to make and distribute barbecue sauce. I now have Nate’s barbecue sauce, bottled and labeled, and Savannah, Georgia. My main goal is to distribute Nate’s barbecue sauce in multiple stores nationwide.

I appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I serve in the US Army for 14 years. I achieve the rank of staff sergeant. I worked in logistics as a supply sergeant. I was also the instructor and trainer for military vehicles; due to an injury while in the military, I was honorably discharged as a disabled veteran.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
What I like most about this city is its diversity. I meet people every day from all walks of life. The people here support all veterans and small business owners. The people in this city have shown me a lot of love and support. The minor things I like most about this city are the traffic and congestion.
